Questions on aircraft registration
 

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions on aircraft registration:

1. When you register an aircraft, can the registration be anything you want to be (apart from of course the country suffix code which is mandatory)

2. If so, do aviation authorities reject registration applications that can be perceived as lets say, rude :p just like the DVLA bans certain number plates?

3. Can airlines apply for registrations in advance of aircraft being delivered, to prevent private owners taking the next registration in their proposed registration sequence?

I've always been a bit curious about this!

The UK Does withhold certain Registrations that are a as said could be RUDE

most other countrys dont seem to Worry to much VP-BUM can be found

VP-BUM - Aeroflot - - Airbus A321-211 ...

Probably BUM does not mean the same elsewhere or does it ,:mad::E

To answer your questions:-

1. Yes, as far as I know you can choose any combination of letters but the rules differ between countries. In the UK registrations are normally not re-used, cannot have the letter 'Q' and consist of G- followed by four letters.

2. Yes they do block certain combinations which may give offence.

3. In the UK, anyone can reserve marks as long as they have not been used before.
