RIAT 2010 Flying Programme
 

I am off to the RIAT this weekend, camping in an area close by to the airfield. I do not have entrance tickets as I am just there to watch the flying display and chill out in my van.

Does anybody know if I can purchase the official RIAT souvenir flying programme in advance from anywhere?

You can get a programme on the day when you pay £18 to park and view in the designated area. :)

Have to agree with Dest on this. You're a freeloader, trying to get all the benefits with none of the cost. RIAT is a major source if income to a very important charity - but obviously no "donation" from you!

I can remember when the old Bournemouth Airshow was dropped after 1991 because so many people watched it for free parking in farmers' fields (the farmers were happy - they charged a bit for parking). Not only did the show lose money but many display pilots complained of large numbers of people in areas which were supposed to be clear for display purposes.

Mind you the people along the southern perimeter road must have got a shock when the Canberra burst a type on landing and veered off the runway towards them!

Just for the record I have probably attended 6 or 7 RIATS at Fairford in the last 12 years and a few more before that, with my wife and kids. Even did a Cottesmore trip travelling back from Bruggen. I have also worked there (and numerous other air shows and charity events) looking after “our” aircraft, running stalls and helping to set up and clean up.

After 30 years serving in the Royal Air Force, if you begrudge me the opportunity to sit outside my hard saved for Motorhome and watch aircraft (a couple of types of which I have worked on in some very dodgy places) thinking that I am a freeloader or not prepared to donate to such a worthy charity, then I am very, very sorry. :mad::mad:

Groundloop, :yuk: you need to wind your neck in a bit. Did you read what the actual question was?
'Does anybody know if I can purchase the official RIAT souvenir flying programme', if you can be bothered to look again, so you see he IS offering a contribution, albeit in the form of buying a magazine full of adverts(for £9 I think!, a weeks wages when you were a kid).
If the vendors of the programmes have an ounce of sense they will make sales points available at the surrounding camp sites.
FYI parking for RIAT2010 wherever one chooses to park is FREE, and what's more, RIAT have a vested interest in the campsites being there, as they hold valuable 'customers'.
I hope with comments like that you are both regular donors on the airshow scene.

Not to mention all the "freeloaders" (me included) who roll into Fairford tomorrow courtesy of Industry for lunch...avoiding the what 40 notes plus for for at least 2 hours q'ing to enter the area.....unless on the road at 6am? Not forgetting the lovely weather (shame not last week in UK no?) - its like bl**dy November out there driving upthe M4 an hour or so ago from LHR!!!

I'm setting off on a 12 hour round trip to RIAT so I can not only enjoy "just the flying" but to support a great charity.

Sorry to say but whatever service and donations you have made, whilst extremely welcome, hardly justify taking the benefits without paying anything. Get your hand in your pocket, go in and do your bit.

Maybe a bit harsh SRENNAPS but...! Surely you, of all people, should realise the importance of the RAF Charitable Trust and it's overwhelming need for contributions?

Heaven forbid that something should happen in the future and you should need to call on it.
