Hope you have the dipole positioned vertically with the "earthy" side downwards.

I don't know about above FL280, but below FL280 :-

118.775 has changed to 118.780

Also in use at certain times is 133.8 and 136.575

Hi Leedseagle.

How do you track the jets with your set up? I do astronomy and the odd bit of astrophotography with an 8 inch Newton on a motorised mount although I can move it manually if required. Jets have always been a nuisance when you catch them at night trailing across your images but your pics have made me wonder if I ought to get it out in the daytime and give it a go. I live under L603 and UM16 so it's always busy above my head.

Had strong signals with just antenna that came with scanner on original frequencys above FL280 but nothing below but new frequency must be the reason, as i have problems finding flights climbing and descending from Newcastle which obviously fly lower than the rest.
Also very far in the distance i can see planes flying SE/NW from Hull-Newcastle would you know frequency for this route?

leedseagle 5th Sep 2015 21:39

I would try

I would give it a go look a my original posts on page one for my set up, i just track them in my finderscope and if that is set correctly they will be in shot

thing 5th Sep 2015 22:03

Ok, will give that a go I reckon. Any particular settings you use on the DLSR? I use one for astrophotography but obviously have it set on Bulb on a timer for the long exposures I need. I'm using a Sony Alpha 900.

Have you tried the London Military frequencies such as 135.075, 135.275 or 135.625? I'm sure they handle NCL inbounds and outbounds on the OTR track.

thing 6th Sep 2015 08:28

OTR was out of commission for a while recently (by a while I mean a considerable time), wonder what they used instead? In fact a lot of the VORs a going in the next couple of years or so, the one at Gamston has about 18 months left I think. Everyone seems to be going over to RNAV.

Hi, I use the 'Av' setting on my camera with iso 200 (unless its early morning evening, I use manual settings), and take pics in RAW format.
I'm using a Canon 300d

Is this the case for upper levels as had a lot of AA and DAL routing on UL602 that i couldnt pick up?

PositiveClimbGearUp 9th Sep 2015 13:13

I'm not sure about that, sorry. Hopefully someone here will know. It may be worth asking about frequencies in a separate thread.

rolaaand 10th Sep 2015 14:08

126.925 for the high level UL602 traffic.

Brilliant! Can pick up high level traffic and hear planes move over to 126.780.
The dipole has amazed me i live 140m about sea level anyway but can pick up all Daventry sectors, Strumble, Brecon, Bristol, Lakes (obviously as above my head), North Sea, Wirral, Montrose south, Dean Cross North & South, Rathlin East and Amsterdam 123.7 and Shannon 132.150 only thing is i cant pick up the control centres,

Anyway will have my equipment back so will have some new contrail pics up very soon

Some fantastic photos:ok:. Prompts a memory.

As a wet behind the ears graduate back in the last century and based in nearly the top floor of a Headingley office building, my window positioned drawing board had a superb view. One crisp cloudless winter's day I watched an aircraft with contrails emerge from the east and tracked it as it flew over and disappeared to the west. Was captivated by it and the idea that in the time I tracked it (cannot remember now and can only guess 20 minutes or so) this solitary aircraft must have passed from North Sea to Irish Sea, during which time goodness knows how many people could have looked up to see this tiny dot pass by.

Suppose that should have been 20 minutes when I was working:}, yet it was so mesmerising that the memory sticks:).
