Looking at the live arrivals section of the Heathrow website, there are three (don't know which are code-shares) flights from Boston due 07.15 which are still 'delayed'. There are also a number of short-haul flights from Europe which landed late between 16.30 and 17.00.
Sorry for the naive question, but would these aircraft all have simply waited in the holds until they could make the approach? |
fernanjet,
Yes but I dont know what the diversion is for, Heathrows website is saying nothing - and Its on the ground at FRA as far as I know. |
1) Diversion to Frankfurt isn't that surprising if the flight was from Berlin - not necessarily an LHR Wx issue.
2) Most shorthaul flights would have been held on the ground in Europe with a nightmare slot as opposed to going around in circles in the LHR area. This sort of fun and frolics reduces the flow rate to 38/60 so you know as soon as you arrive somewhere that it may be a while before you get back. Good job it's the weekend and less flights. 3) The 3 0715 BOS flights are all the Virgin flight but with codeshares. |
I must admit when i posted this post i thought it would be a good day to watch some good flying.
When will the Met office stop "hyping" up weather "Severe Weather", "weather warning". This was a typical autumn storm nothing out of the blue. Nothing for crew to worry about. So, when we get a major storm god for bid it will be the end of the world by the the Met Office....:ugh: On a lighter note their where some well handled birds today and good reporting from ATC.........:D No im not in aviation but the team work to get the birds on the ground was blinding:ok: |
No strong winds up here in North East England. Cold but bright and sunny this morning; cloudy but mainly dry this afternoon. We'll be happy to accept any diverting aircraft from southern England.
|
Who remembers the December day when one of the JT9Ds on a Pan Am 747 actually struck the runway at LHR on landing? Could have been 27 December, 1979.

We have had quite a few go arounds here at LGW today--VERY GUSTY!! I am sure the EK 15 at lunch time didn't divert(it was a777 not a 767)-it did go around, but pretty sure it went in on the second attempt!
The LGW tower have been really been under pressure today with the thunder and lightening and hail at 09.00ish this am, and the gales since then(it has become a lot calmer here in the last couple of hours!) |

Any chance of an English translation please? What does ATC "report"? Thanks. |

No im not in aviation |
The aviation met gave a much more realistic forecast: Heathrow and Gatwick TEMPO 1416/1418 20028G45 and Luton 23030G50. It seems the media weather people live in fear of 'Doing a Michael Fish' as someone has already said!
The 0750 Culdrose actual of 21041G63 grabbed the attention. |
Quote: No im not in aviation Yes, your previous ridiculous statement quoted by Vortex proves that. And your remark about ATC "reporting" (sic). Better to keep silent and let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt |

Did any find out what the Surface Wind Speed was on the 14/11/09,
I was Listening in, that morning and heard reports of Windshear on Finals for 27R/L. Cant remember the attitude though. |
You should be able to get some sense of what was going on
here Weather History & Data Archive : Weather Underground There were a number of rotating cells in the region (hence the Essex tornado reports) so gust-wise they could have come from just about anywhere creating some wildly unpredictable localised shear - outflow may even have driven them vertically, which can't have been remotely funny. |
