Rememberance Sunday Overflight
 

As a first time contributor to the website I hope I've got the right Forum so apologies in advance if I havent got it right!... Basically my issue is this: for the second time in two years whilst I was observing the 1 min. silence on Sunday at the Harrow Civic Centre War Memorial a mostly white coloured Agusta 109/Bell 222 (?) suddenly appeared flying low and slow at exactly 11.01am over the proceedings before seemingly turning left and descending towards somewhere in North West Harrow (I'm convinced it wasnt heading for Northolt as its decent pattern was too rapid) It's appearance was to be frank insensitive and judgeing by the looks on the faces of the assembled armed forces and police most unwelcome. So what do I do? Speaking to the CAA has not been of help so any ideas on what I should do?

Don't the some of the Forces use white 109s? RAF transport etc etc.

Also consider the Time we live in and who was about in various
places this also could be part of Security cover who knows for sure
intrusive maybe but we need to be Safe .

Toally agree with last comment although have just spoken to Northolt and they are checking it out. Still whilst I agree with security needs etc... there were plenty of Police on the ground and in any case being familar with the usual Police/Army/Airforce types that fly over NW London this helo looked nothing like (especially in terms of colouring) the usual sort...still convinced it was a civil pilot being a bit silly with the timings!!!!

Without speaking out of turn I think the Royals use S76's and I am aware that the Hereford chaps may use A109's but would be surprised if they were blank white in terms of colouring?

Googled for information on this and there are apparently some mil choppers
in White and other schemes see the link if its allowed

You could well be right on that helo, probably getting confused but is that a S76? If it was would make sense as I think the QF is based at Northolt (?) Even so flying during the One Min Silence or flying directly over said Service whilst obviously sneeking a peek (bearing in mind the local police had stopped the local traffic in the area to preserve the silence....) is a bit naughty. And in reply to an earlier comment I dont think it was doing a "spy" job as I am sure the Sky Cops would be doing that job already or possibly the super secret Northolt-based Islander......

Problem solved everybody.....just spoke to a Sqr Ldr at Northolt "I hear you have a complaint sir...."....

Apparently it was probably an Augusta 109 "we dont have S76's sir (???)" of 32 sqr en route from a long line of Rememberance Sunday fly-pasts...requested by the Royal British Legion. He didnt see the problem of flying so close during the One Min silence????? come on guys...Am I being so unreasonable???:ugh:

Evening and Sunday Night the continous thump thump thump of
fireworks even worse on Sunday night .
There is a time for that 5 nov. Remembrance Eve and Night Is not .
Respect Sadly Lacking but thats my opinion.

Reasonable opinion shared! Having said that, a Lancaster/Spitfire/Hurricane or any relevant WW2 aircraft flying past at the same time might have been forgiven!!!:)

I forgot. Is fireworks night to "celebrate" that parliament wasn't blown up, or is it because Mr Fawkes had "good" intentions in mind?

P.s I have found out now. Its to celebrate the King avoiding assaination. Which is why we celebrate

Hehe, Yes. I wanted to hijack the thread and start a controversial discussion as to whether its right to celebrate things like this - you know, set fireworks of and make bonfires for terrorist attempts that didn't pan out. Then I realised this isn't JetBlast :ok:

Gosh a fly past by a A109, how exciting!!!!! Sorry to sound so cynical but surely they could have spared something more exciting ie: Tucano, Hawk, Chipmunk etc....

actually having thought about it and given the nature of the speed of the flypast surely it might have possible for one of the aforementioned types to be used on a rapid flypast over a number of services over a couple of hours period - lets put it this way given the urban nature of most rememberance civic services I doubt any helo or fixed wing could hang around too long anyway over one particular site (especially on a wet and windy November morning!!)
