Rome Ring Road
Was driving along the Rome (Italy) ring road on the way out of the city, on the Northern side when I spotted, among other things, a Sherman Tank and I think, a Fiat fighter in some sort of scrap yard. Had a look on Google earth and I see that it seems to have at least a dozen aircraft inside as well as tanks, guns, etc etc.
Can someone please tell me the type of aircraft, how they got there, and if they are for sale??? Many thanks................ |
Rome (scrapyard ?)
The aircraft look like F104 Starfighters.Fuselages in a row with a stack of wings in front of them .Looks like they are going in the melting pot .:{

But how or why did an Italian get hold of F104's? Saw some previous pics on the net that also seem to show high wing radial powered A/C - maybe Grumman trackers? Again, how on earth did he get hold of them?

That's the Bentivogli yard, I'm sure there's a web-site out there somewhere.
Last time I was there (18 months ago) there were F-104s, G-91s, a T-33, an F-84, a few helicopters, etc. |
I saw an F104 in back street in Pisa once.
I think it was a college of some sort. |

BTW there is an ancient saying that "All Roads Lead to Rome". Well, this ring road (GRA) certainly proves it wrong. Sorry, off-topic, but could not resist.
