Islander over Manchester
Hi
On the day of the 2nd Twenty20 at Old Trafford, I saw an islander doing lazy turns over Manchester at very slow speeds. I have heard rumours about spy in the sky islanders, so can only presume it is one of those. Any thoughts ? |
Rozzerz do have an Islander, yes.
|
You'd be correct, Greater Manchester Police have a B/N Defender :ok:
|
Could well be one of the three Islanders from the RAF Northolt Station flight that are used in counter-terrorist roles monitoring mobile phone communications and wi-fi computer internet traffic. Often seen over major UK cities
|
Thanks guys
Pity he could'nt fly a bit lower over Old Trafford and dry that bit of 2m x 2m that was such a major problem !! |
It never ceases to amaze me that people talk openly on here, a public forum, about security-sensitive matters which, when I was a controller, I wasn't allowed to mention - anywhere!!
|
Perhaps people here haven't been vetted or signed the OSA. But yes, there should be some degree of self-policing.
|
Sorry both !
Maybe I should'nt have started this thread in the 1st place. |
Heathrow Director and forbesy64, the information about the three Islanders at RAF Northolt is out in the open domain - here is a quote from Wikipedia about RAF Northolt:
Current units at the station include No. 32 (The Royal) Squadron RAF, No. 600 Squadron RAF (Royal Auxiliary Air Force), 621 EOD Squadron RLC (part of 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment), Royal Logistic Corps BFPO main sorting office, including the Defence Courier Service (DCS), both of which relocated from Mill Hill and the "Northolt Station Flight", flying three Britten-Norman Islanders. Their role is electronic intelligence gathering - described as 'embassy and anti-terrorist surveillance'.[4][5] Details of the Islanders; ZF573 Islander CC.2A,delivered to the unit in the mid-nineties. ZH536 Islander CC.2,the first aircraft acquired in late 1991. ZH537 Islander CC.2B,the third aircraft delivered in April 2008.This aircraft formerly served with the United Arab Emirates Air Force. (RAF Northolt - Aircraft and Equipment) Talking about the OSA here is BS :O And the GMP Islander changed from blue colours to a more military grey in 2005/2006 http://www.plane-spotter.com/Jpegs/8...ter/G-GMPB.jpg |

You have the right to remain silent, but anything you do not disclose now - that you later rely on in a court of law - may harm your defence. Do you understand? What is your date of birth? And if you're fit, blonde and drive a sports car -what is your phone number. Question is... what's circling the UK above all the Islanders? |

I qualify on all fronts but I can't help feeling that I may not be the answer to Sir George's fantasy - and I'm ex-directory! |

Heathrow Director/Forbesy.... I dont see for one minute what is security-sensitive ??, this aircraft operates from an International airport with its own viewing park, which incidently is where the Police Islander parks in-front of, right in the view of thousands of people week in, week out. Its attitudes and comments like those in this thread that are turning our once great and free speaking country into a paranoid shambles. |
Apologies all for my hasty addition.

Try Air International magazine, May 2008 issue, 3 page article ...... |
I mention one little plane over a big city and all hell breaks loose.
Never mind the weird black wing like plane I saw over the mountains of Nevada on my last trip to Las Vegas ! It was quiet and was doing at least Mach 4. ! |
