B767 N350AN written off at Fort Worth 15-7-2009?

Any further news on an apparent maintenance error causing the loss of B767 N350AN at Fort Worth on 15 July?

You might want to change the thread title since it says the airplane is a 777 while the cited article and the picture clearly show that its a 767.

The 'Gimley Glider' slid quite a way down the runway and was repaired, why should this one be any different? From what you can see, this isn't half as bad.

Confirm 'written-off'. These incidents actually cause amazingly little damage. I could probably fix myself with duct tape, a rivetting kit, drill and pliers. I know I kept enough cars going like that when I were a lad! Maybe if it was coming up to major maintenance and largely lifed-out, one would recalculate whether it is worth repair, especially if surplus to requirements.

The Gimley Glider was just a few years old and was one of the first B767s out, so it was definitely cost effective for it to be repaired and returned to service.
This, on the other hand is a different story altogether. The report says one of the youngest B767s in AA's fleet. But i would guess it's at least 5 years old since it's just came out of HMV. And with the current economic climate, it would not be cost effective to repair it and return it back to service.

I suspect the underwriters of the insurance may see it differently. Hell, if Rainboe can fix it, then we're good to go.

Gimli (Manitoba), not "Gimley".

Carry on.

It's FIVE years old. I think it might be worth trying.
