Near Mid air collison?

Hello, on june, 29. 2009 Isaw in the sky over Tallinn, Estonia manouveur I tried to describe on attached picture here:
http://www.upload.ee/image/117491/STP64167.JPG
Can anyone explain it, was it something serious or just some routine? For backround info: there were 2 other planes, one before and one after who flew same route as plane who made such rapid turn on picture, one around 15 min. before and other around 30 later. and they both flew straight, no turns whatsoever but why this one made such manouveur, especially as other plane was on the above shown course?

Not having seen what you say, it's impossible to say with any certainty. Did the aircraft produce a contrail? If you saw the contrail making a movement like what you've shown on your picture, it may simply have been winds aloft moving the ice crystals in the contrail.

There was a trail like on picture, but it was not caused by wind because it was clear that one plane was making turn like this.

Red Arrows?:E

BOAC 26th Jul 2009 14:11

I think it is the 'Red Roubles' performing the famous 'Hammer and Sickle?

ThreadBaron 26th Jul 2009 14:32

Ah, BOAC! Your understated British humour will get you into trouble!:ok:

Wing-R 26th Jul 2009 16:44

Good jokes:D, but seriously, those were two passenger jets, passing over 30 000ft high.

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 26th Jul 2009 19:35

Judging from the trees and the fact that they appear to be small jets I'd reckon they were somewhat lower than 30,000 ft...

In fact, if you magnify the picture they look more like drawings than of real aircraft..???

leewan 26th Jul 2009 19:42

Hmmmm....

This picture strikes me as odd.
  • The contrails start suddenly for both a/cs. Normal comm a/cs contrails can be seen for a few miles long and the end will usually be blown partially by the wind. They will also be wide and wispy. Not thick and solid like this.
  • Both a/cs look similiar and a bit strange. They are painted green.
  • And TCAS resolution advisories are usually fly up or down. Not turn left or right.
To me, this is just military jets practising aerobatic manoevoures.

staplefordheli 26th Jul 2009 19:55

The contrails have been added with an image manipulation software, presumably as aid to the tracks of the two AC
I think Wingr already says this in his emails although not that clearly
I would put the height more around 6000ft
certainly not 30000ft
Always very hard on the ground to judge vertical separation, unless both are of similar size.

Wing-R 26th Jul 2009 20:07

Picture is not from actual event, I made it after just to illustrate what I saw at that moment!

Wing-R 26th Jul 2009 20:12

Planes were high, just as those international flights passing over country, they usually fly at over 30 000ft.

SNS3Guppy 26th Jul 2009 20:18

Probably wind, moving contrails.

Wing-R 26th Jul 2009 20:21

It was not wind, as i saw the plane making manouver just before they crossing each other routes. Manouver looked exactly as the trail I drawed on picture. As it was avoiding other plane and turned behind it.

eliptic 26th Jul 2009 20:56

As it was avoiding other plane and turned behind it.
is it not common sense that they did just that, why else should they do that maneuver back to route ?

Flintstone 26th Jul 2009 23:34

:ugh: Doesn't anybody read before posting?

I saw in the sky over Tallinn.....manouveur I tried to describe on attached picture.....There was a trail like on picture...
There are no real contrails shown on the picture and he witnessed the manouvre, geddit?

Sheesh.

piky 26th Jul 2009 23:41

Definately wind:O Excuuuse mee:uhoh:
