Manchester Fair

Found this, may be of interest and something to do in summer.

The Aviation Fair

Planemike 23rd May 2009 22:30

Have to ask if the £ 2:00 charge mentioned will include admission to the AVP? If it does not, seems it will be expensive to go and spend your money........

Planemike

MAN777 25th May 2009 10:25

I believe the entrance rates to the AVP will be reduced on the day.

Dont know by how much though.

Ms Spurtle 29th May 2009 11:12

Hmmm..

Sounds good.. but is the AVP really big enough for such an event. Especially car park wise ??

Planemike 29th May 2009 14:17

We still don't really know how much the entrance charge will be.

obnoxious 29th May 2009 17:31

what recession

Pay £5 each car and driver + £2 each pax to get past that wooden hut first then another £2 to get inside concorde hangar?????:ugh:could do a checkpoint charlie and hide in the boot.

MAN777 29th May 2009 18:34

Info for all, been in touch with the people in the know today.

The entry on the day is £5 for car and all occupants !! Also the new multi admission system will be in force by then so it could cost just £1 to get into the main entrance.

The entrance fees to the actual fair are below normal fair entrance prices, £2 per adult, OAP £1 and kids free.

So actually it is actually a cheap affair.

With regard to size, it is more than big enough as the AVP also owns two large adjacent fields for overflow parking and the hangar is massive.

Also the best bit of info is that there will be a licensed bar and bbqs on the day !!:)

Planemike 30th May 2009 17:47

This still looks like it is going to cost £ 7:00 for an individual turning up in a car, ( £ 5:00 admission to AVP, plus £ 2:00 admission to Aviation Fair )

"""So actually it is actually a cheap affair.""" I don't think so.......!!! And this is to spend money at a fair where stall holders will already have paid for the priviledge of having a space.

I personally know the people behind this event and they are bending over backwards to try and make this event a success and put on a show that everyone can enjoy. A premier venue such as this does not come cheap and has to be financed, so if you would prefer, the organizers can go back to scruffy venues with no connection to aviation miles away from the airport, or site it where people want to be, at an airport.

Also have you been to any shows at Tatton Park lately ? Admission to site and show is more than this.

Why not come by bus and save £4 !! Or get together with some friends and split the costs, surely you are not that tight !!

I am sure this event will be a success

Any relation to planedaft...........?

Planemike 31st May 2009 09:04

Mickeyman. Why do you ask? I do not know and am not related to "planedaft"........... I am indepedent.

MAN 777. I am really not too bothered where an enthusiast fair is held so long as the venue is convenient. I am more interested in what stalls are there and what they have on offer.

The last one I attended was at EMA. I did not pay as I was on a stall, but do not recollect there being an admission charge and there was a concession on airport parking.

LGW 2009 Admission £ 4:00, £ 3:00 for me and others because we are of a "certain age". No charge for parking and believe there was a shuttle bus from the airport <no charge for that, but I may be wrong>.

I cannot quote prices for Luton and Kempton Park but do not see them being £ 7:00..........

Its a real shame that you feel so negative about this fair.

As I am privy to whats happening, I can confidently say there is going to be no comparison between this event and other fairs you have named.

Yes, it will have the usual tables of traders and ordinary individuals selling their collections, but I am also lead to believe that this event will have much more to offer, there will be microlights, homebuilds and Hot Air balloons on show and also exhibits from clubs and societies covering all forms of transport and modelling. There is a licensed bar and quality food available and of course the non stop airshow going on right next door !!

By the way I notice that your age is on the right side of bus pass territory, why dont you get a free bus to the event, pay the £1 pedestrian entry and then OAP entrance of £1 to the fair, sum total £2 :)

Regards

Planemike 31st May 2009 21:11

MAN777.......... At £ 2:00 admission it sounds a lot more attractive and competitive with other fairs although of course one does have to make ones way there on foot, not an insurmountable problem.

I wish the event all success. I did not feel I was being negative, just querying the admission price compared with other enthusiast fairs.

Actually there is a regular bus service from the Airport Station to the AVP, in addition you can catch any of the buses that go via cargo centre and then walk the short distance to the AVP.

MAN777 30th Jul 2009 07:49

Received an update for this event

The event is now full with 200 tables occupied.

Traders in all forms of transport modelling, Pilot supplies. optical supplies, ADSB SBS, Camera supplies including demonstration stand from Canon UK, book and art dealers and over 40 private individuals selling the contents of their Attic !!

Hot air ballons not coming now but there will be 5 working railway layouts, dozens of highly detailed maritime models on show in their own lake ! 40 Radio controlled trucks and off road cars.

Sounds good to me

MAN777 18th Aug 2009 09:30

Another update from my mates in the know.

Of note to photographers is there will be an open top double decker bus giving a vantage point over the fence. Also the large participation from the camera supplier and Canon UK will give everyone the chance to try out the latest products, they promise lots of bargains, gutted really because I am a Nikon Man !

As already stated the tables are sold out so there should be plenty to see and buy.

There is also a Pilot supplies shop and the "Vulcan to the sky" charity have suggested that one of the giant RC Vulcans will be on static display, pity a slot on the closed runway couldnt be arranged, now that would be great, or the real thing !!! Maybe next year, we could have the whole place to ourselves:)
