4 sea kings and a lynx anyone see it?
0910 this morning. 4 mk4 sea kings flying in diamond formation with the one up front with white stripe livery. Also a lynx AH7 behind them.:ok:
|
part of the flypast over the Thames for 100 years of naval aviation maybe ???
|
I also saw at about 0900 two Sea Kings - one in ASR colours, the other the air defence radar version (with the 'dustbin' sticking down). Travelling east roughly towards Northolt. Makes sense now!

part of the flypast over the Thames for 100 years of naval aviation maybe ??? Edit: Ye just seen on BBC news headlines 100 years of fleet air arm. There going to be talking about it in a bit. |
Not been paying too much attention today (still half asleep!), but Sky News are covering it quite a bit.
Brian Hanrahan back on deck!! I think it's HMS Illustrious. LJ |
Flypast is due today with a carrier (Illustrious?) down at Greenwich to mark the 100 years of Naval Aviation.
It should be Seakings, Lynx, Jetstreams etc but sadly the Sea Harrier has been excluded due to its single engine! Same for the Navy Hawks ...but apparently the Red Arrows and BBMF are not affected by this restriction because they are "maintained to a higher specification". HWB |
Anyone know what time the flypast is please?

ahh all this health and safety. doesnt it just make you laugh!
Single engine so what! Its what makes part of the fleet air arm! |

it's nothing to do with elf and safety, it's a permanent restriction that is in place over certain parts of London... It does seem a bit daft tho, especially if the dead sparrows get dispensation |
anotherthing: Ye a permanent restriction because in case the single engine fails and a plane crashes. The health and safety people would have a field day!
treadigraph:1200 hours. Live on BBC news |

Thanks lytebyte2002, I shall peer outta the window - probably just about see them from Croydon! It's a bit grey that way though...
Re the single engine stuff, I have heard in the past that if a BBMF Spitfire or Hurricane loses the engine during a flypast over London, they must ditch in the Thames - Spitfires are buggers to ditch and could well prove fatal for the pilot, not sure about the Hurricane. |
Also, the Hawk glides nicely, whereas the Harrier...well...doesn't :}
|
Hawks were allowed in, someone pointed out that the dead sparrows fly the same aircraft. some good photos here if you're interested:
