Post -war British airliners
I wonder if any flight/cabin crew who worked on Comets, Tridents, VC10's etc., could help me with photo's, anectodes/history for a website I am trying to get 'off the ground'?

Dunno if it's any help to you, but I fly the ONLY American Turbo-Prop ever to fly in the era you refer to. The L-188 Electra was, sadly for Lockheed, built at the same time as the B-707 and therefore, sadly, mostly suffered the same fate as the Viscounts, Vanguards, Argosys etc etc. However, as a proud Brit, I do find it irksome, much as I love the Electra, that ALL the wide British variety of turboprops are history, and yet the Electra, the ONLY American turbo-prop, continues to fly all over the place.

Lockheed also had big sales of the military version; the P3 Orion which is so closely based on the Electra that allegedly the coffee urn has a fitting for heating a baby bottle

Hey - not all British turbo props are dead.
I fly the HS748 (origonally Avro 748) including an origonal series one. And I bet they'll still be going after the L-188 is dead!! |
