Huggie, Have to agree with you on the HUY controller. I mean about the HUY controller. :D

Oh no I've just had an image pop into my head, get out Huggie get out.

Actually, I have a confession. One night after landing in HUY and listening to her voice all the way in. We shut down the aircraft and when getting out and being pretty self concious as I was hoping she may be looking down. I managed to fall down the rear steps of the aircraft.
 :D :D

Conversation I heard west of London one morning:

ATC: LH are you experiencing any turbulence @ 350?

LH: Affirm we are in and out of the bottoms.

Unidentified Aussie: Fair Dinkum mate, it takes a big man to admit it!!!

It still makes me laugh. ;) ;) ;)

ABZ 1999 (possibly still there now)....the most attractive female voice I have EVER heard. Soft Celtic tones, and a very nice way of saying 'seven'..
I always did my best to flirt on the radio, as one does. :p

There's a lovely lady on Bournemouth ATC. Always sounds happy, and gives, (willingly), lots of informations to the guys/gals in the air, regarding everything from traffic to weather. Don't know her name though, but if she's reading this - thanks for the service!

WeatherJinx 20th Nov 2001 21:16

My vote (like a lot of others it seems) goes to Farnborough Radar..as well as being generally cheery and friendly, they are also cool under duress, as witnessed by myself a few months ago when I heard them helping a recently qualified PPL (who had taken friends for a spin), in making a successful forced landing after an engine outage.

Additionally, the London Information guys/gals are surely worthy of a mention for their generally friendly and composed manner, given the massive coverage area and on occasion extremely high workload - this combined with sometimes having to deal with with some of the most appalling R/T I have ever witnessed. Well Done! You are not always appreciated...

A certain mentor I know positively bol****s his (or her) "students" for being in any way cheery on the R/T - no "hullo", no "goodbye" and certainly no "good day"!

Apparently this is taught at the college (which I hasten to add I can understand) and "there is no place for being friendly when you're on the job".

How very sad :(

Must remember that next time I'm on the job (oooer missus!!!) :p

I believe the lady in question is soon to be heard at Woodford.

As for HUY, I know her too. They are both very nice girls. :p

I'd like to put in a good word for most of the KLM/UK guys n gals that are based in and around Leeds - very friendly people and fun to control. :)

KLM/UK again, eh?!?

What IS in your (F100) coffee???

My vote goes to Palm Beach Approach in West Palm Beach...always helpful, always funny..

"Nxxxx with ya out of ten with a request.."
"Ok..Who was the 6th President"
"Madison"
"Very Good! First correct answer today...go ahead with your request..."

The worst controller must be "Mr. Happy" on ZMA 132.25...shame because there is one great gal and two excellent blokes who work that freq.

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 3rd Dec 2001 11:56

FAAJAA reminded me of one of my colleagues at LATCC:

Speedbird approaching Biggin: "What's my range to touch down London?"
Lon Ctrl: "Nope, can't answer that; give me one on sport"
Speedbird: "OK, who was the Spurs goalie when they won the double..?"

Luckily my colleague knew!! Incidentally he's the same bloke who asked JCB1 to "Excavate out of FL100".

As for instructors demanding that we forego the usual courtesies - they've been doing that since Pontius was a pilot... and everybody has been ignoring them ever since.

For being friendly under pressure Belfast Aldegrove takes some beating. 5 - 6 paxjets on freq + military helos + the odd fast jet + countless old frieght turbodogs + Bloggs' first solo taking place all at the same time... thats a lot of situational awareness required.

Thank you, it's nice to be appreciated. I'll pass this on.
It doesn't take much to be corteous(?),if someone helps me out I always say thanks, but cross me at your peril!!
Though I never get many complaints about my turn ons. :p :)

I must mention an amazingly sensual voice on the BRS radar. I visited the tower during my IR training and found out that she had the beauty to match. I was mesmorised by her powers!! ;)

Roundouthigh 13th Dec 2001 13:58

Flying from Biggin, who do a great job in ATC, we often talk to Thames Radar. They are fantastic. Thanks also to Y watch when I was shown round LATCC a couple of weeks ago. A great tour from a great bunch.

Happy Christmas and here's to 2002 being a better year.
