Trader Jon's Reopens!
Florida
Friday, September 1 Pensacola - A historic bar filled with naval aviation memories and memorabilia will reopen today on the birthday of its longtime proprietor, Martin "Trader Jon" Weissman, who died in February at 84. Weissman suffered a stroke in 1997 and was unable to return to work at Trader Jon's, which closed the following year. His family recently sold it to a Navy pilot, Lt. Matt Heckemeyer, and his wife, Kerry, for $465,000. They have since spent about $150,000 to fix a leaky roof and make other repairs. The Heckemeyers said they were unaware that Weissman's birthday was Sept. 1, 1915, when they scheduled the reopening |
Was there for the Grand re-opening. New owner has done an excellent job of maintaining the "feel" of the place. Slightly brighter but smells a bit better as well so a good trade-off! God Bless Trader for leaving aviation such a legacy.

Captain Ed thanks for the news.
I read this board from Italy but P'cola is my home. I don't check the local news often and would have missed this. Nice knowing there are a lot of PPRuNers that have been there and liked it. |

Are the current owners the ones, or is this the bar that Dale Brown (or was it Coonts) main character uses in his books. |
What a brilliant place! Particularly during airshow week.
