Vickers Vimy over Oxfordshire?

Was I hallucinating or did I see what looked like a Vickers Vimy flying at low level just north of Oxford a few days ago? It was a big twin engine biplane anyway, but not the DH Rapide I've seen in the past.

Last I heard it was still Airworthy and flying out of Dunsfold . So likely
you did see it but I will make a few enquires as to where it is now .

The Vimy was indeed flying out of Kidlington last week. Very sedate old lady it looked, too.

Yeah - she's been living in the blue bubble hangar at Oxford since the summer - only comes out when the Wx is nice!!

Thanks guys. It certainly sounded rather different from the Warriors and Senecas I'm used to seeing in this part of the world. I'm amazed such an old aircraft is still airworthy.

Vimy

Well, the aircraft is a few years old now - though a replica, still rather 'challenging' in some respects; I know someone from the Brooklands Museum team who are responsible for her - was hangared at Dunsfold but now in Oxfordshire.

This aircraft actually flew around the world, one of the pilots being the late Steve Fosset.

There were rumours that she was going to be repainted in doped linen colour and re-enact the 90th Anniversary of the famous Alcock & Brown flight across the Atlantic, which took place in June 1919, although these plans may have been abandoned?
