Ek A340-500 Fuel

Just wondering.....

My sister flew back from SYD-DXB today on the EK413.
Flight time was said to be 14hrs 16mins.

Severe fog meant the aircraft held off from landing for an extra 40mins or so.

If the Rolls Royce Engines on the A340-500 burn 3000kgs per hour per engine and the flight was approx 15hrs long then that would be around 180tons of fuel.

I know the Max TO wgt is around the same as a 747-400, Basic weight being around 161000 kgs.

My question is how much fuel would have been put on in sydney.
What is a typical Ramp fuel, Trip fuel for this route.

When i worked at sydney airport i know the LMC was literally only a few hundred kilos on the syd-dxb routes.

6 tonnes an hour for 15 hours is 90 tonnes. Much more likely figure.

a340-500 fuel

Oh that sounds much more likely, i got them figures from a australian engineer working on sydney ramp.

A340-500 has a fuel burn of around 5860 kg/h...

14h 15 min= 14.25 h
Holding 1500 ft 30 min= 0.5h
5% ERT= 0.7125 h
Alternate OMSJ 15 min= 0.25 h

Total Trip Time: 15.7125 h= 15 h 43 min

15.7125*5860kg/h= 92075kg

So the FOB would be around 92 Tons.

Hope this helps!

Sorry boys your numbers are well out.

Approx 9 tonnes/hr for the 345 on long heavy sector, short ZRH down to about 8t/hr.

So trip 14.25hrs - 125t
Alt OOMS 45 mins - 5 t
Final res - 4 t
Cont - 3 t
Holding - 10 t (due fog in DXB that day.)

Total on board about 145 -150 T at take-off.

EK A345 Capt.:}

nb Figures are rough guesstimate, but will be quite close.

A345 is a heavy thirsty machine. Aps weight in Ek config is about 185t, MTOW is 372/3t.

B772 LR burns nearer 7.5 t/hr, so much better fuel economy for similar payload.

EK will most likely keep it for a while despite the fuel burn, as there are more to aircraft finances than just how much petrol it uses.
