Width of Tristar, A350 and other widebodies
Tristar outside fuselage width is well known. 597 cm. DC-10 is 5 cm wider, at 602 cm.
However, the Tristar walls are thinner at sides. The frames are thinner, skin is thicker and there are no stringers. Although Tristar is 5 cm narrower than DC-10 outside, the cabin is 5 cm wider due to thinner sidewalls. Look at DC-10 http://www.boeing.com/commercial/air...s/dc10sec2.pdf page 20. 10 seats, 2 aisles and their armrests combined have 224 inches width. Tristar has 226 inches inside width. Il-86 and Il-96 are 608 cm outside, 6 cm wider than DC-10. How do their sidewall thicknesses and cabin widths compare to Tristar and DC-10? How wide is A350? I have heard different numbers, like 591 cm and 596 cm. Which is right, and how does the cabin compare against Tristar and DC-10? |

A350 Outer diameter = 596cm (A330/A340 Cross Section is 564cm, 787 is 575cm, 777 is 619cm)
A350 Inner diameter (at armrest level) = 559cm (528cm for the A330/A340, 549cm for the 787 and 586cm for the 777). EADS N.V. - Technical Data Airbus A350-1000 |
The TriStar also has titanium tear strips (fail-safe strips) for added strength. The titaninum strips were bonded to the skin, if they became disbonded, they did not have to be reattached except in the lower portion (bilge area) of the fuselage. |
