XL's Aircraft
With reference to the post below about where XL's planes are stranded, what will happen to them now? :\:confused:
In particular will they be left standing a for a long period of time with fuel still in the tanks or will that be drained off? I'm sure it won't do the fuel any good to be left sitting in the tanks for ages. I suppose if other airlines buy them, then they might take on their crews as well since they have the knowledge to operate them. Cheers Donnlass |
Should imagine the leasing companies will now get involved and join the legal process in retrieving their aircraft tech.logs and aircraft logbooks/records. Aircraft i should imagine will remain where they are until bills have been settled with fuel left in the tanks, de-fuelling won't do the sealant any good to the integral fuel tanks, obviously this being a function of time.

Engineers will be appointed by the aircraft's owners to continue routine maintenance in order to keep the aircraft airworthy.
In addition, engines and systems will be run on a regular basis. Fuel would not be drained unless the aircraft was destined for a long term storage program (which usually involves ferrying the aircraft to dedicated facilities in the USA....Mojave, Victorville, Marana etc) |
It is disappointing to see those BAA jobsworths parking a large vehicle behind every XL aeroplane. Mostly snowploughs. Funny they can handle that yet seem to have a problem meeting aircraft with staff and steps and buses on arrival! This really is an organisation from 'the dark side'!
Can someone who knows say what the situation is regarding holding these aircraft as assets pending resolution of debts when they actually belong to a leasing company? They won't get their money (good), so when can the leasors reclaim their aircraft? |

If you new anything about the Airline Industry you would know that the aircraft are effectively impounded until the airline/lessors pay any outstanding fees at the airport they are at! Once the fees are paid, the aircraft are free to move. The XL aircraft in MAN for instance had tractors parked behind them, not to prevent them from moving, but as a symbolic stance. In this instance, the lessors have paid the fees to get their aircraft back. They will then chase the fees with the liquidation company. The aircraft which are owned by the lessors carry the debt, and until this debt is cleared the aircraft is used as a pawn in a very intricate damge limitation exercise..... |

Forgive my ignorance, but what does parking tractors behind aircraft symbolise? Admittedly, I'm not in the aviation industry, I assumed it was merely to prevent unauthorised aircraft movements. XL - Aircraft
You just need to go to LASHAM in the quiet Hampshire countryside. There are now around 6 or 7 B737's stored currently. I'm sure it will not take long for a new operator to take up a lease but WHO knows with the current economic climate.

I believe Rainboe was refering to BAA not receiving any money rather than the lessors....

I think he said BAA won`t get their money not the leasing companies.
When aircraft are impounded at an airport it is often not just the airport that are trying to reclaim money it is the air traffic agencies, handling agencies etc etc Ian |
An Xl aircraft flew over my head into Kos airport around wednesday. Who has them flying again?
