Polet An124 @ LHR today
Polet An124 ETA/LHR 1215Z today.
Bringing in Emirates A380 model from the US to be placed at entrance of tunnel to the central area. |
Good God. Whatever happened to the model of the Concorde?????

Heathrow Director
I think I remember that the Concorde model's removal was commented on in these forums about a year ago?? I, too, thought that it should stay there. The A380 is just another standard shape aeroplane albeit it a big bigger and a full length double decker. Concorde was special - a design that (perhaps) we'll never see the like of again. |
The Concorde model is at Brooklands Museum

Comes to something when an emirates model is at the enterance to heathrow, rather than a british airline.
Just to recap emirates presence in the uk, they now have the model at LHR enterance, are the name of arsenals stadium, and also sponsor the tower at newcastle airport. What next, Manchester emirates airport, the emirates terminal at BHX or maybe emirates castle in edinburgh? |
I'll have a look out for that! Is there any way of seeing what movements are scheduled for LHR on a particular day? There used be a very handy website which listed any intersting ones well in advance but it seems to have vanished.

I'm sure that there is an AN124 in Farnborough today as well.

Extraordinary that an An124 has to come in to bring in a model ! Was it not designed to be broken down into sections ?
I am reminded of the Saudi Arabian government exhibition at Earls Court in about 1983. A huge PR effort, it was all free, and wasn't really worth going to but there was a large tableau of the Saudi desert built. Apparently multiple Saudia B747 freighter special flights brought in the several hundred tons of sand required into to Heathrow .... from Saudi ! |
WHBM, the model is about the size of a 737, and specifically designed to only just fit into the hold of an AN124.

No Antonov at FAB today FRIDAY
HI
There was no ANT124 at FAB today. RA-82078 was in and out Yesterday (THURS ) carrying we understand Helicopters. Tony |
Have just seen it twice 5 mins ago 13.05Z local.
First time it had a noticeably different engine tone from other western aircraft as it slowed and descended from the west over SW London, however as it passed by on the 27L ? approach it was as quiet or quieter than a lot of the baby buses. Noticeable too was the gap behind it and the next aircraft, an BA 319, approx 5 mins due to wake vortex considerations, after all you wouldn't want those passengers shaken but not stirred :} the model is about the size of a 737, and specifically designed to only just fit into the hold of an AN124 Regards SHJ |
5 miles is a standard vortex gap between Heavy and Medium.

5 miles is a standard vortex gap between Heavy and Medium. Also did it park on 701 to facilitate the installation of the A380 model by road rather than park up in the cargo area ? I had imagined that 'they' (who?) would truck it over 27R after midnight and pass it through the emergency gates to the roundabout plinth. Regards SHJ |
SpringHeeledJack.. It may just have been that traffic was not offering straight behind it. Even at busy times there will occasionally be a larger than usual gap in the landing stream for a variety of reasons.

What's its expected dept date/time?
and To echo one of the above questions, is there a way to see listed dept/arr in the uk. iX |
Just curious did anyone get any photos of it at LHR today? I've seen plenty of An124's at EMA but it seems a rare sight at LHR.
How many An124's have visited Heathrow in the past? I recall seeing a photo of one at heathrow dated 1997 (I lived near EGLL at the time but never saw it) and then there was todays flight which I guess takes the tally to 2, but has there been more visits than that? |
Due to depart 6th at 0720z
