"Heavy" Diversion
Going into work at Castle Bromwich this morning.
At 07:04 Britsh Airways 747-400 passed nice and low over Fort Dunlop. Victim of the weather somewhere ? (can they take off again from BHX with a full load ?) |
Looks like it was the BA28, HKG-LHR service...diverting due to weather at LHR.
Can they take off with a full fuel load? Possibly not -I haven't got the books in front of me, but normal procedure in circumstances like this ( diversion to an airport relatively near final destination) is to stick perhaps a max of 40ish tonnes of fuel on, not fill it up to full ( around 170 tonnes). |
LHR arrivals showing several flights diverted, GF, SAA, BA, QF, dont know where to.
|
Man777
At least one BA 747 has gone to Amsterdam.
|
Still got them coming in over Putney for LHR ... in fact there's an AA 777 right now. The wind is not too bad at the moment, and they seem to be at the regular intervals.
|
First front through LGW/LHR, and next on the way.
|
Which explains the clear blue sky and sunshine overhead.
|
BBC news, reports that more than 40 flights from HTR, cancelled.
|
This will give you an up-to-date idea of the front locations.
HTR? Why - is it windy in Hateruma in Japan?:) |
HTR..41 flights off, mostly domestic, no further info. Current BBC news.

" and some fell on stony ground"!
|
(had posted this in it's own thread before I noticed this one)
You check pprune first thing, you check BA before you leave the house, you check your bag in with no problems ..... then all hell breaks loose, everything is cancelled (Glasgow -> London City) and you go collect your bag and drive home. Ah well, my local pub does a great breakfast and has wiFi for the laptop :E Good luck to anyone flying today! |
Landed at LHR from Zurich this morning. No problem witht the flight but the wait for luggage was as long as the flight :(

I have a built in safety mechanism, I don't want to turn up, with my sun hat, creams, bucket & spade, to be acosted by some wounded Captain asking if I am Avitor...Yes mate, that's right mate....And are you heading for Hataruma? No, not me!
Then on yer bike. |
BBC hype V a nice landing
From the BBC website:
Plane blown around in storms http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/c...1&nbram=1&nbwm Looks OK to me:ugh: |
I just watched it a few minutes ago and I was expecting it to be much worse. Looked pretty much textbook to me. What I wondered about though was the location of the helicopter that took the video.
|
I think what made that look dodgy was the angle of the helicopter, not winds!
|
Very interesting angle..
But whats with another elitist post on how the media are "doing it wrong"?? I hardly think "struggling to land" is 'hype' just more of a simplfied description for the non aviator. |
