Hi everyone. Have you all looked at the Wikipedia article? The Electra that sheda prop was:-
June 8 1983. Lockheed L-188 Electra N1968R accident at Anchorage, Alaska - According to FBW. |
Reeve Aleutian Airlines
Ooops yes Super VC10
I now see from your forst post that you have been "expanding" rather than writing the article - apologies! I remember now too, that it was 1968R that brought me back from St Paul. I have a few slides in my lecture carousel at home and when I get back will see if any would be helpful... BEST Rod. |
Back in 1968 Reeve Aleutian acquired an Electra (possibly their first) from Air New Zealand where it had been registered as ZK-CLX. It was ferried to Alaska by ANZ who sent a maintenance engineer to assist them for a few months to gain experience with the type. It had originally been owned by Qantas where the registration was VH-ECC I think.

It's that aircraft again! :)
N1968R c/n 2007. Ex ZK-CLX of California Airmotive. Purchased February 1968. Leased out from November 1988. Sold to Air Spray for conversion to a fire bomber, becoming C-GHZI |
N1968R (ex-QF and NZ Electra)
This aircraft was delivered to Qantas as VH-ECC "Pacific Endeavour". It was then sold to Air New Zealand and re-registered as ZK-CLX "Akoroa" as a replacement for ZK-TEC which was written off in a training accident.
ZK-CLX was inducted into the Air NZ fleet at a time when the airline was renaming itself from TEAL to Air New Zealand, and CLX was one of the first aircraft in the new livery. ZK-CLX was onsold in February 1968. The sale of the aircraft by Air NZ was historic in that the broker was none other than Steve Udvar-Hazy, the founder of ILFC. This was his first aircraft deal. Coincidentally the 40th anniversary of this deal is February 16, which Air NZ will be recognising in conjunction with Mr Hazy. |
