Jet fuel odors after landing
Why do I sometimes smell jet fuel after landing in an airliner? I presume that bleed air is taken from compressor stages that precede any part of the engine that manipulates fuel, so it seems unlikely that fuel from the engine itself could be finding its way into cabin air. Some have suggested that it could simply be odors sucked into the engine from the area around the airport, or perhaps the engine's own exhaust being sucked in during reverse thrust operation. Anyone here know for sure where this odor comes from? I only recall smelling it after landing, not during other parts of the flight.
