Merlin sounds low over Farnham area 16th Sept 2007
South of Farnborough September 16th 2007.
We live in a wood, so horizon not visible in any direction. Merlin sounds grew louder at around 15:35 or so. Then very loud. Certainly multiple engines. Lancaster or formation of single engined Merlins but it shook the house. The Sands south of Farnham. Bad weekend for some but it raised my spirits and I salute those who allowed me to raise a family or two, enjoy flying and sleep peacefully at night because they paid the ultimate sacrifice. Anyone spot the machine/s? Aviate 1138 |
possibly something from or to the Shoreham airshow?

Group of aircraft transitting to/from Shoreham, although BBMF did a tour of Surrey and Sussex yesterday too doing at least 5 flypasts at various B of B sites.

LANC over Blackbushe
hi
one of the Blackbushe group members took this picture of the BBMF LANC http://kensphotos.photoblog.org.uk/p45112804.html On Sunday 16th over Blackbushe |
or formation of single engined Merlins Any rattled window panes much regretted by the pilots I am certain.:} FW |
Quite a bit of action over Crowborough at the weekend, presumably stuff going to or from Shoreham. Saw the Lancaster yesterday afternoon, Spitfire or Hurricane on Saturday, thought we saw a couple of the red arrows, but not sure where the rest were, and two fast jets (eurofighter?)
Not a true spotter so not 100% sure planes correctly identified and anyway they came and went so fast having to compete with the noise from chainsaws! |
Slight thread drift but a Lancaster has just flown some low passes over Waltham aerodrome near Grimsby. Nice sound and sight..

Fokkerwokker, pilots of Merlin and Griffon powered aeroplanes are welcome to rattle my windows anytime...
Mind you, given the location, the CAA might well have something to say about it! We do often get a visit from the BBMF when Biggin Air Fair is on, paying their respects at the Croydon Airport memorial. |
I was on thew 17th at Southwood golf course, which is adjacent to Farnborough. It was a Lancaster. Wonderfull sight and sound. :D
