I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate forum, i apologise to the mods if that's not the case, I was just wondering if anyone knows what has become of the 'stars' of the BBC docu-soap?? Have they gone onto bigger things since they found 'fame' on the show.

For instance what does Jeremy Spake do now??? Does he still work for Aeroflot?? I remember he used to appear on the tv occassionally but haven't seen anything from him in the last 5 years!?!?:confused:

I believe that those 2 journalists, Steve and Russell,can still be seen chasing celebrities in the terminals:-):ugh:

I believe that the BBC have scrapped the show?!?!:8

I'm sure that I heard Jeremy Spake commentating at an Old Warden display a year or two ago. Not absolutely certain it was him but it looked like him and sounded like him. He did quite a good job too.

I heard (this was some time back now) he was working at the Fed-Ex hub Stansted Airport.:confused:

A internet search reveals that Jeremy worked for FedEx at Stansted Airport for 2 years as an Operations Manager resigning in mid 2005.

Now he oversees a management consultancy firm and does a weekly satirical programme on Russian television, he also does various charity work and after dinner speeches.

I wouldn't be suprised if they did, that station is going downhill.

I believe the aviation jobs Jeremy Spake has had in recent times are more in the nature of consultancy/PR contracts rather than full-time employment.

But he has fallen into the media world and his agents pick up all sorts of things for him there. He also does a good deal of charity work. And for aviation work see here :

He also appears in Russia from time to time. He is fully fluent in the language, although coming from Essex, as his mum is Russian.

Best moment was the Millennium 2000 coverage. Jeremy had been sent by the BBC to Moscow to do his usual light-hearted coverage from there. Hey presto Boris Yeltsin resigns as President that day. All the usual Moscow journos are unavailable, so JS gets plonked in front of a camera and is put through reporting the number one political story of the day. He carried it off pretty well.

Viv, BD load controller (from the 1st series I think) still works for the airline but now in a different department and I've seen a couple of the paramedics and Anita floating about from time to time.

Anyone remember Douglas Ward, BA captain who did one of the fear of flying courses and comet flight with Patrick Moore?

I think you mean Oord, and sadly, he died even before the program hit the screens I think. Very rapid onset of cancer.

I saw Maria from Cyprus Airways running around Terminal 1 at Christmas. :ok: :ok: :p :p :p

I've seen Maria quite a few times in T1, tending to the needs of her Cyprus Airways passengers - she's a pretty lady:O

It's very sad news about Cpt Ward, the episodes he appeared in were among my favourites, particularly the episode with the 2 chaps sitting their bi-annual sim check!!

I recall Jeremy Spake had a column in Skyport for a while. That was some time ago though.....no doubt his columns are more impressive now!

The fact that Airport maybe over is not sad...the show had run its course. Yes an airport can be an interesting place but they really were starting to scrape the barrell and turn the mundane into celebrity.

" Joe has been called to terminal 4...someone has been sick..Joe gets called out hundreds of times a week to clean up sick"

Plus they kept on calling it "The worlds busiest international airport" Wrong!

Ah, right actually. It handles more international (ie.non domestic) passengers than any other airport in the world. Altlanta and Chicago O'Hare handle more passengers but most are on domestic flights.

Growing up, I loved watching Airport because I had an interest in the aviation industry, and knew I wanted to work in an airport, so seeing all the different types of jobs and watching the human interest stories was really good viewing. The problem as has been mentioned, is that the stories toward the end were really scraping the barrel, and more people now are familiar with air travel - it doesn't hold the same excitement or mystique as it once did - you might as well start "Railway Station" filmed in Kings Cross.

Its already been done, its called The Tube I know it is currently showing on Sky Travel but I would assume at one time or another it was once shown on a terrestrial channel.

Just dragging this one up again as I was assisted by the legendary Jeremy Spake in T5 on Sunday evening. Seems he's working for BA Customer Services.
