LOWER THAN USUAL 4 JET NEAR GATWICK

At about 1100Z today I saw a 4 jet (B747 or A340) at an altitude of about 1500ft (or less) in a position due west of Gatwick at about 10 miles from the field. This wasn't a low approach because the aircraft was tracking about 310 degress and must have been over Dunsfold. it continued on that track at the same altitude and disappeared in the distance.

The aircraft was red and white.

Anyone know what the problem was?

There was 747 positioning from EGLL to Dunsfold this morning - worked TC then Farnborough radar - possibly the one you are on about??

That fits in. Thanks

Copy and paste in address to view. A340 arrived from LHR at approx 1200local. After two precautionary approaches the crew made a good landing onto Rwy25 at Dunsfold. Tonight the aircraft will be used in the filming of the new James Bond film. The airport is supposed to be Miami. For info the runway is approx 2000m and there are tall lights used for the filming approx 30m from the aircrafts left wing tip. The A340 will leave tommorrow.

I look forward to seeing how the editors manage to make both Dunsfold and Prague (which is where the filming took place last month) look like MIA; continuity nightmare?!

Quote from the video

I think it's about a tonne of fuel every second he's doing
!

By my ad-hoc calculations, thats 25,200 tonnes or so on the average LHR-JFK! You couldn't make it up! Where do we find them?:ugh: :8 :oh: :}

Having seen and heard the Video again this morning is not the comment:
"I think it's about a tonne of Fuel every circuit " ?
Still out Me thinks !!

Batman, Do You know who shot the Video ??.. If so please pass on our thanks.

I shot the video, yes and apologies if the comment on a ton every circuit is incorrect, I don,t fly the A340. I fly the A320 and I was just doing a bit of multiplication based on that, so I stand corrected.

For info, The scene in 'The de vinci code' supposedly at Biggin Hill, was also shot at Dunsfold. I was there also.

And I'm sure the a/c in Prague was an A346, whereas the one in the video is an A343.

Humble apologies Batman, thought you said every second.:O

Indeed AWR I can confirm it was a 346 in Prague. By chance I was there (as pax) while they were filming. So, possibly another CGI challenge to fatten up those pods at Dunsfold!
