Help

I'm new to this forum and if this is not the appropriate place to post this msg, please redirect it and I will proceed direct to that waypoint.
I have always wanted try my hand at the commercial airliners and have my upcoming chance to do it on Nov. 07th for 2 hours in a 737-700 NG. I've been flt simming for 8 years and have H.Heinlin's PS1.3a software and the famous PMDG 737NG program.

I was wandering if anybody could give me a few heads-up as what to do and what to expect on a 2 hour adventure. It will be at the Atlanta-Hartsfield airport simulator and since the scenery is better at that airport, I thought about doing take-offs, landings and some abnormals. In view of the short amount of time involved, should I forget the start-up, taxi', etc. and just have them line me up on the centerline with zero winds to start with and let it proceed from there or what??

Can anybody give me an idea of how much effort it takes to pull back on the yoke at VR since I don't want to over-rotate and have a 'tailstrike' on my first attempt etc. and also, I plan to follow the 'white bug' until 1200ft AGL and then select FLCH, bug-up to zero flaps while retracting them and then selecting Hdg Sel and once the crosshairs are reasonably close to perfect, activate the AP without touching the control yoke..

I would also like to know how to approach the landing phase at KATL if anybody has done it using 26R or should I use 26L since it is longer?

I look forward to any experiences that you folks might have had and what I should prepare for prior to getting into the so-called "horror box"..

Any comments would be appreciated as Nov 07 is almost here.

Regards,
noullet

Hi

You may get a better answer in one of the pilot forums...

Best of luck!! :ok:

Aeroplanes is fer flying. Don't waste time starting/pushback. Be engines running at holding point, taxi on and away you go. Sounds like you know just fine what to do. The secret is gently at all times, no jerks at all, and a positive slow gentle pull to raise the nose above 12 degrees for take off. When in a steady state, trim, trim, and trim again. Start with touch and goes, don't rush yourself, do a bit of high speed/high altitude, back for a couple of ILS approaches and go arounds, maybe even an engine out on go around, by which time your underarm deodorant will have failed completely. Read up crosswind techniques and theory and have a small crosswind throughout.

Thank you so much for your replies. I'll have to remember to take a little stick of deoderant along for the ride. Should I request radar vectors and speed & altitude constraints on the approach....My greatest fear is coming in too fast and not having enough time to put the gear down at flaps 15 when the G/S starts to move down past the first dot...

Regards & thanks again for the replies....Very much appreciated on this forum.

First of all, you'll be in the sim with an experienced instructor, and he/she will tell you exactly what to do and when to do it.

Secondly, as these sims aren't cheap and you've only got two hours, why put the auto-pilot on?! Fly the thing and have fun, remember, you won't kill anyone or break anything!

Relax and enjoy:ok:

Thanks for the 'heads-up'...I'd like to think I could 'relax & enjoy' but I'm just a shade nervous about it but maybe that's good also as I tend to do a little better under stress....

Thx again,
noullet
