777 landed at Southampton Eastleigh
This afternoon a United 777 landed at Southampton Eastleigh.
I checked it out and its landing roll is 1500m+ and the runway is 1700m. Must have been pretty serious, any clues as to why she came in??? Thats a big kite to get into Southampton!!! Anyone happen to have their scanner on in the Soton area??? |
Seems astonishing given that Bournemouth is just 10 or 15 nm down the road. A 767 I could believe, but a 777?
|
what is the source of this info ?? - any pictures ??
|
I'll believe this when I see it (which will be in about 2 hrs!). It would need to do a 180 at the end of the runway, unless it made the early turn off!. Also it's landing problems will surely pale, performance wise, next to it's take off problems.
Shurely a case of mistaken identity? |
I was thinking probably a seriously ill passenger would be the only reason!
True, landing will pale into insignificance compared to getting it out, and it sure won't have enough fuel to get it back to the states when it does go! Mistaken identity, I think not, although I did not see it personally, a colleague saw it from his window in the city. He is a pilot and aero eng student, I am sure he can tell his Boeings' apart! |
The largest a/c that SOU can take is the B757-200.
A B777 might be able to land & stop on the rwy but that would be as far as it could go, neither the turning pans or taxiways are big enough to cope with it let alone where it would park! |
Strange, there is nothing on thisishampshire.net nor BBC News.
Don't want to doubt you Alchef, would just like to see the pics! |
All sounds highly dubious! There is no way that a UAL 777 would land at Southampton for medical reasons.
|
its still has not yet been verified !!
|
Perhaps its something to do with the problems at LHR earlier?
|
Maybe it's industrial action connected to UA's pension debarcle.
:ok: |
Must have been desperate to land at Eastleigh for a good night out...
|
You have obviously never been to Martine's then!!!!!
|
Only the "Railway Shunters Arms" for cheap XXXX
|
A UA 777 landing at Southampton ? Impossible. Totally.
It wouldn't be able to leave...let alone get onto the ramp... I would be really interested to hear why...and I can't find any information on this, anywhere... |
The airfield is too small. Someone is pulling someone's leg! Perhaps the thread starter's friend who "was looking out of a window."
Go check it out. |
The largest a/c to come in on the 10th was the Air Berlin B738. Fact: DEFINITELY NO B777 or B767 landed in Southampton.
|
Be afraid. Be very afraid. The Air Berlin livery is indeed vaguely remininscent of the old UA livery.
This absurd thread must mark an all-time low for Spotters Corner, but why not make something positive out of it? A Pprune "Hall of Fame" of notable threads (or posts), with an annual poll for Thread Of The Year or Post Of The Year? Maybe even different categories? Perhaps SpecSavers could be persuaded to sponsor whichever category this one falls into...:ok: |
Thank you lesarcs1, very useful, always wanted to know what a 777 at San Francisco looked like...
PPRuNe Pop, poor you, having to preside over this... ;) |
Always wanted to see a 777 at San Fran. Cheers for that link.
