Height Restrictions...
Hi All,
I have just started looking into training to become a pilot, and i found that the height restriction for British Airways is 6'3". I am 6'5" and wondered if anyone could tell me if all airlines have height restriction as low as BA's Cheers Matthew |
No. Very few airlines have any kind of restrictions on height (at either end of the scale), as most of the entry requirements are experience based. 6'5" is unusual, but not exceptional.
You'll find a huge variety of pilots in all shapes and sizes, so unless you are a freak of nature, you have very little to worry about, although some aircraft, like smaller regionals might be a tight squeeze. |
I know of a BY first officer who flies out of cardiff and he must be on the taller side of 6'5".

In the UK military there are no specific height restrictions, but detailed limits on sitting height, arm reach etc.
They tend to work out at around 6.6, however, unless a person has very unusual conformation. Do a search on the mil forum for the exact values. |
Don't worry about it. I'm 6'4" and have flown a cessna 150 with no problems. Any airliner flight deck I have had the pleasure of sitting in has had ample room for me.
Actually the only aircraft cockpit I have sat in and thought I would be too tall to fly it was the Vulcan. |
Thanks everyone for your help...

No worries Matt. I'm 6'4" and the only physical impediment I have is my beer gut! Keep the shorties out of the flight deck.

A mate of mine with us (VS) is just a tad under 6`6". He mentioned to me that the only company he ever had a problem with was BA.
Mind you, i think he stooped a bit during his company medical just in case!! |
