TUI job losses, Britannia rebranded Thomsonfly

Subject: TW Newsflash - TUI UK sheds 800 jobs[Scanned] A TOTAL of 800 jobs are to go at TUI UK as part of a major restructure of the business. The jobs will go from "all parts of the business" and are a result of the consolidation of its specialist holidays division, the airline and tour operating divisions. The shop network will continue to be reduced and shops will be reviewed as leases expire, although it denies a "major shop closure" programme is planned. More holidays will be sold through dynamic packaging, with more business sold direct - through the Internet, over the telephone and through TV. The entire Britannia/Thomson airline fleet will be rebranded Thomsonfly, with more investment in the airline fleet with extra planes and a refurbishment programme. Overseas services are being reviewed, including its holiday reps, and summer holiday brands within the Specialist Holidays Group will be reviewed. London offices in Kingston-upon-Thames and Camden will be scaled back. TUI UK managing director Peter Rothwell said: "The market has changed significantly over the last few years and it's important that we are in tune with how people buy and travel today." |
S'funny. I wondered why I couldn't get through.
Dylsexlic yes......but at least I can spell "Cocktip" |
You beat me to it!!!
Let's hope this gets as much coverage by the press as MYT did when they announced the job cuts! |
Another respray? I've only just got used to the Thomas cook.....er....I mean.....Thompson.co.uk paint scheme.:O
|
I hope they drop the horrible blue colour...
|
Yes, a nice white with navy blue stripes. Get HM on the tail as well! Like all these things....if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
 |
Very sad to see the Britannia name finally disappear. Hope they might rebrand it back one day as ThomsonFly just isn't the same. Any ideas on what the new planes mentioned might be?
ES ;) |
It cannot be that bad - for the last 2 weeks Flight International have been carrying adverts for pilot open days. They are obviously recruiting pilots at the very least.
|
The press release read out on radio 5 said that jobs would go in all areas - including Britannia. I assume, therefore, that this is ground staff, not aircrew.
|
Who will be the Chief Pilot of the combined airline?
|
arfur sixpence, yes lets get rid of the groundstaff not the aircrew we don't need them do we? BA tried this and look what happened to them. Lets just remember a team needs players in all areas!:(
|
Not personally involved but it sounds a silly step to drop the Britannia brand.
Well known to the public, they have an excellent reputation in the business for high standards of training and operation. Shades of Consignia and funny fins  |
Thomson Holidays always used to be affectionately known as Tommy Holidays; Tommy Airways just doesn't seem right.
|
How's all this likely to affect Ts and Cs for mainline and the 737 fleet, for new joiners and those already there?
Good luck to all involved, hope the job losses will be few. |
Speaking as a regular consumer I think that ThomsonFly is a ridiculous name: it sounds more like an unpleasant disease that afflicts animals.
Why drop such a well-known and respected brand name as Britannia Airways? It is lunacy. And names can make a difference. I was talking to someone the other day who was considering whether to fly from Bristol to Jersey with 'some new airline called Flyby or something.' In the end he had decided on BA (even that of couse is BACitiexpress from Bristol) because he didn't altogether trust new airlines 'in case they suddenly go bust'. I explained to him that Flybe was the name and it was the latest name for an established airline previously called Jersey European (which he had heard of) and then British European. Why, oh why, do marketing people want to stick their noses in to fix something that isn't broke? |
Why drop such a well-known and respected brand name as Britannia Airways? It is lunacy. "Tell me, Mr Image Consultant, what do you think of our brand name?" (thinks)..' if I tell them to change it, fat fees for me during the changeover. If I tell them it's fine as it is, no fat fees for me'. "Well, Mr Chairman, my suggestion is this ...." |
Well, now with the forthcoming arrival of baby into BHX, do they still really need TsetseFly at Cov?
I am sure the baby announcement has caused an unpleasant feeling in T-Fly, as they must know that baby is a big winner. You know, the airline with tiny fares! |
Why not ask Thomas Cook what the "rebranding" then "unrebranding" of Condor cost to the company in terms of painting/printing and popularity ?
|
I guess that’s what „management“ today is all about: reinvent the wheel – and then take the money and run.
Like ThomasCook(ed) Condor Pichler did.... |
Will the flight deck crew still wear "white hats"?
