Quad tail engined a/c into LHR

Whilst working away in Kew this afternoon 15:30 what looked like a VC10 or IL62 came over my head on approach to 27R.

Its the first time Ive seen one of these in my period working daily under the approach, as I was directly under it I saw no livery.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this beauty, airline a/c etc???

Russian state visit perhaps?

Didn't see it but most probably an IL-62, unless someone from Brize knows different .....

IL62 Russian State flight.

SDM9662 I think.

And on that note Gonzo ... you have earned this a move to the spotters Forum ;)

LOL! Not the reg, mind you, that was the callsign!

I was doing departures at the time, so it might not be correct!

but I thought the Russians used IL96s in their State Flight nowadays (a wee bit quieter!)...

....time to duck into anorak....

The Ukrainians use/used an Il-62 for state flights although it may have now been replaced by an A320 of all things... It was in LGW last year.
