Mystery 4 engine turboprop - Bournemouth
Seen outbound from Bournemouth last week but too far away to get good tally.
4 engine, prop, viscount/748/andover type design, blue/white fuselage, dihedral tailplane. Sounded just like a Herc as it flew over. Any idea's? |
Could it have been this:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/511441/M/ Been at Bournemouth for a year now, it's been published that it's about to take to the air again. Maybe wrong colour though. Could have been one of the Air Atlantique Electras has been in though; right colour, right sound (an Electra is basically a Herc with a different fuselage). http://www.airliners.net/open.file/438663/M/ |
an Electra is basically a Herc with a different fuselage The C130A is powered by 4 Allison T56A-1A turboprops and has a flat shoulder-mounted wing. But apart from the wings, fuselage and engines the two types are very similar indeed. :E |
I saw a blue (or possibly black) and white Viscount in the vicinity of Hurn last week. Definately not an Electra.

I live under the 27 apch at liverpool and the electra goes in often about 1000ft over me, easy to tell them by the smoke trails they leave, wings look stubby as well.

The Electra is an absolute delight to fly...instant power when needed.
Ah....Lockheed.:D Even better than the 1649 Connie...and that took some doing.:ok: |
Rumour has it the Guppy is being retired as there may be engine problems with the ones fitted and due to the lack of spare engines...
VEEPS :( |
It was the Electra
Thanks WHBM, it was indeed the Electra.
