MYT DC10s withdrawn

Heard rumour today, MYTs DC10.10s are to be withdrawn from service Tuesday posn MAN - Exeter for storage. Any truth in this ?

All 3 MYT DC-10-10s due at Exeter Tuesday PM. That should block out the sunlight at Broadclyst!

chiglet 30th Sep 2003 05:13

EGTE..I have a photy of all four MYT MD11s at Manch taken 3 weeks ago :ok: wot's happened to 'tother one?
we aim to please, it keeps the cleaners happy

Fraudsquads 30th Sep 2003 05:30

I know these 3 aren't gonna be all that heavy but when the Air Transat L1011 first arrived it made quite a mess if the apron so I'm told.

Is the old concrete northside gonna stand up to these 10's?

Chiglet, the DC10-30 is not entering hibernation at EGTE hence why only 3 of them are visiting my backyard.

I quite fancy a wander round them if anyone can arrange it.

Their arrival tomorrow explains why Elvis and his friends appear to have been parked around the corner.

Anyone know what time they are likely to shake my office to pieces on finals?

Cheers

Ooops, must of been out of the country when this was first mentioned.
Shame all the same, I will miss that line of blue tails waiting for work. !

Flew on one 2 years ago as a pleasure flight, Man airport hired it to take airport workers on a circular route taking in approach and go arounds at the newly acquired, Humberside and East Midlands airports.

As a side note, I understand the ex Monarch DC10 at MAN is about to be cut up in situ on the west apron, forward fusalage and cockpit to be preserved in the viewing park.

I'll kind of miss the DC-10's in all their glory - and in a funny sort of way.

The remote stands and Pier C simply won't look the same without them :D

Apologies if I've missed it already on the thread but are they planning to return them into service next summer? Or is this the last goodbye?

Anyone close to 'TE who takes pictures of this sort of thing - I'd appreciate it if you could take a few snaps and maybe put 'em on the web somewhere for me and mine to nose at :) Thanks!

josephshankes 30th Sep 2003 05:51

Slightly off subject but is Frank Wright still with MYT?

EGTE 30th Sep 2003 15:42

Latest I've heard on arrival times at Exeter is 15:55L, 17:55L & 20:55L. Should be interesting for the last one parking northside in the dark!

The old girls are not exactly going quietly! G-TAOS is currently AOG with a U/S APU and it will not accept ground power from either the FEP or GPU. GTDTW is also AOG right now waiting for a part from LGW and will make the trip to EXT tomorrow after doing its now delayed MAN-MLA-MAN. G-DPSP was delayed 1hr 25 due to a crew shortage.

SP - MYT005P MAN2005z - EXT2100z
OS - MYT001P MAN1400z - EXT1455z
TW - MYT003P MAN0800z - EXT0900z - 01OCT

G-TOAS is due to leave MAN today at 14:00z, G-DPSP leaves later this evening then G-TDTW leaves MAN tomorrow morning.

Niteflite - No return to service planned. When TW leaves MAN tomorrow that will be the last time you will be bothered by MYT DC10-10's although the 10-30 will remain for a while yet.:{

Hi,

What will happen to the routes where a DC-10 is needed? Will G-BYDA cover these flights?

Thanks

What does the term Reduction in Capacity mean to you ?

After SS03 is over DA is designated as "Wide Body Backup" and should not fly that often however .................

First one of MYT DC10's laded in EXT @ 1600z and is now parked on the northside of the airfield.
Looked a fine sight as she came in - with full flap's and slat's out

Big Tudor - I don't think any of us were ever "bothered" by the 10's :)

I think most of us can safely say that they are/were "true" aeroplanes in the old sense of the word - perhaps the last of a dieing bunch. Noisy, dirty but almost mystical beasts that were a pleasure to watch and hear :)

Gimme a DC-10 over an A330 anyday :D

A sad loss indead and along with concorde perhaps the final nail in the coffin for the Flight Engineers (stage coach drivers)in the Uk.

Fraudsquads 1st Oct 2003 03:07

Even flight numbers

Since they are apparently retiring from MYT service on arrival at EXT is there any significance to MYT001,003 & 005P flight numbers. Would they all be odd numbers as ex MAN or are they simply leaving room in the chart for returns to MAN in MYT colours?

TAOS is rather lonely sat across the far end of Rwy33 alone. Hopefully her sisters will join her soon.

If anyone wants to see a photo of them I'm sure they will be posted at Photos & Movements at Exeter in the near future.

DA will be covering some of the flights, the rest will be subbed to Air Atlanta and European so I'm told.

2 of 3

The 2nd has just arrived on stand southside at EXT where I guess she will stay til the morning when 3rd bird arrives and the crew will move her northside to join TAOS.

to put EGTE's mind at rest. She didn't have to make her way north in the dark!!!

BAe 146-100: What will happen to the routes where a DC-10 is needed? Will G-BYDA cover these flights?
We could use the A320s, or the A321s, or the B757s, or the B767s, or the A330-200s, or the A333-300s, or yes G-BYDA. If the MyTravel fleet allows for one thing, it’s choice :uhoh:. A lot of people forget that, unlike the DC10-30, the DC10-10 is a short-haul aircraft.

As woderick said, due to capacity reduction, it’s more a case of these three DC10-10s plus N571RY that was retired in May not being need at all. G-BYDA will be flying a long-haul programme this winter and I guess will be kept on as a long-haul standby aircraft for S04.

P.S. Should this thread not be in Airlines, Airports and Routes?
