It sounded like a C-130J. Has it got uprated engines etc ? No doubt off to sandy inhospitable places to spread love and peace ;-)

No, it's an L-100, built 1985. Actually, might be the same one, got a similar history.

I realise it's an L-100, but it sounded 'modern' in it's sound profile, which made me wonder of it had been re-engined, or re-bladed (if that's even possible) to allow it to better do it's work, say compared to an NGO steed dropping relief supplies around Africa.

FAA lists it with Allisons. Seemed relatively quiet compared with the Belgian C-130Hs that occasionally drone over here but sometimes clag seems to muffle aircraft noise slightly. The C-130Js seen to have a higher more insistent sound to my ears.

Speaking of which, an Italian AF C-130J just sneaked past, heading north up through the east Midlands.

And a Dutch Tecnam P.2006 is on survey duty over London today..

Italian Air Force KC767 sneaking along behind the C130 spotted by Tredders, currently abeam Newcastle at FL270. The Fat Albert is heading out over The Minch towards Stornoway, are these two in cahoots?

Just looking at that - blimey, wish I'd watched it on Shoreham's webcam!

Got it! It's the same one that was at Shoreham.

It flew over my house at a ridiculously low altitude en route to Shoreham this afternoon, I'm about 4 miles north of the aerodrome. Been interesting here lately with Chinooks landing at Wiston House at stupid O'Clock at night, a Gulfstream G650 flying low overhead (M-OVIE) and a CitationJet 4 into ESH yesterday.

Survey Turbo Porter

D-FIPS Low over Chester ex Hawarden 1630 , off to trundle around the Wirral on survey work. A change from the usual Partenavias.

Any clues what this aircraft does? Always seems to head North West out into the Atlantic from PIK or similar

It's owned by 2Excel who include border and fisheries patrol amongst their services - possibly something along those lines?

Seeing a lot of blocked aircraft lately. Some I can guess given the origin at the AFB that I work at. But at home now and able to keep FR24 and FA open where IT policy at work blocks me, 2 Dreamlifters from Taranto to Charleston, USAF C-40 shooting landings at KMHT and KCEF before returning to AAFB. Last week two Delta 757s (one 200, one 300) flying from KMHT to JFK which I found interesting since Delta has temporarily pulled out of KMHT. Both aircraft seemed to have been making the rounds between commercial and AFRB and ANG bases. And lots of Helos!

Sitting out in the garden yesterday afternoon, caught the Orbital Sciences Stargazer launch platform L-1011 transitioning from San Bernardino over to Mojave Spaceport. Definitely one of the rarer things I've seen in the wild.

I haven't seen a TriStar in years... Strange how some types fade so quickly, though I guess it is a long time since the last one was built - 250 in total?

SpringHeeledJack, did you see the pair of USAF HC-130Js which just flew westbound over London? I could hear them but rather hazy...

Should look at ADSB more often, C-5M thundered over my head about 20 mins ago at 35000 - haven't seen one close up (ish) in ages, they usually route back to the US well to the north of London.
