Thought I was about to be overflown by a low-flying B-36! Fan noise from a BA 777 outbound Heathrow doing a very creditable imitation of the mighty Peacemaker... (As heard on "Strategic Air Command"!)

Heard them for real when they were based at Brize Norton, I lived in Cowley, Oxford under their Brize circuit pattern, once heard never forgotten, strange when I see a picture of them the noise comes back, buried in the brain.
RZG , I made the fatal error on here of not reading Dave Reids post as he is as close to infallible as anyone.
So i might get the chance to see one then which would be nice. As is obvious I have a bit of an emotional attachment after spending a lot of my life on them and I hope BA do give the last one a bit of a send off

Just looked it up, nice little twin rather reminiscent of the Phillips Speedtwin - with a soupcon of Diplomat thrown in.
Saw a nice Cessna 120 this afternoon which I recognise from PFA fly ins at Cranfield in the days of yaw
and around sundown, a Jodel was puttering about at quite low level for these parts - a little one, perhaps a D.112 or similar. It didn't show up on any of the sites. Nice to see and hear - Potez under the bonnet?

Wish I could have... and C-124s and C-133s. At least I've seen examples of the latter pair, the B-36 has eluded me thus far... and the Lockheed Constitution was scrapped at Opa Locka not long before I first visited.

Enter Air (ENT555) B738 not long departed Aberdeen for Novosibirsk (fuel stop) eventual destination Hong Kong. Don't often see Hong Kong on Aberdeen departure boards! Ship crew charter.

Worth being a mite off thread when reminiscing about the B-36. I agree with Zetec yesterday that once heard never forgotten. In the 1950s I lived in Peterborough and was aeroplane mad. My log book starts at 1952 but contains only sightings when I was able to "spot" the number. So I don't know when it was that I heard that unmistakable sound and much later, it seems, SAW the giant creeping over the horizon seemingly very low, but probably higher than I imagined. Wonderful stuff.

An RAF A400 just gone tangentially over London at 12,000ft, which is fairly unusual, even in these strange times. Seems to be heading home to Brize. Must have wanted a scenic arrival and with little to no traffic it was possible.

I agree Pax Britania PB 747 out LHR TO SA. take off 27R and 27L ..
SAd sad to see the last BA 74 head west , so many hours spent on them in my pax 'carer' taking me safely to literally the four corners of the world , I flew to every continent on them. A lot of years my first flight on one was Nov 1971 and last BA 747 trip was ORD LHR in 2017 . Looking back I flew on 74s belonging to AF, BA (and BOAC), CX, LH, MH (Malaysian) PA, QF, SQ,TW, UA . First and last on BA ( and more trips than all the others combined) , Jo'burg and back on the same plane , (luckily in F). best trip AF Beijing to CDG also in F in a -100 but AF knew how to do F class back then.
Being west of LHR then if they were on easterlies and heavy and a lot of inbounds I might have had a chance for a photo or westerlies the Cape Town departure barely made 6000 by Camberley if it was heavy . But today- no load no traffic and as DR says they will be at 5000 just a couple of miles from the airport and with no climb restriction above 6000 ft they will be a small spec by the time they are 20 miles west. Shame I would like to have bid it Adieu to the Queen of the skies, we will never see such an iconic airliner again

Remember seeing my first SP, Pan Am early one morning over my school heading towards the Ockham hold from the Southampton direction - must have been the summer of '76 before all the heath fires started! Most recent one was probably VP-BAT, zipping overhead inbound Bournemouth. Lovely sight.
Flite phone, thanks for posting that great BOAC pic, if I pretend the winglets and extended upper deck were not there it would be the same as my first ever flight 28-11 71 ,BA175 LHR-JFK IIRC. very close to 50 years ago which say a lot about the basic design update many times as it was.
French connection, we obviously live/lived in same part of the world I was in Egham for a while where heavy 74s especially 100s on hot days really really struggled over the town.
I lived in Stanwell for a while before that and SAA used to doa non stop to Jo burg on Mondays , all other days via Ilha do Sal back in the apartheid days so no over flying much of Africa. I deliberately went up to the airport boundary where the twin rivers are to watch this once and it was a spectacular sight as it got airborne from what was 28L , all one could hear was a thunder of all those wheels as as it hurtled along on the ground rotating around the former block 79 runway intersection -no doubt all precisely calculated by the crew but it was easily the most runway I ever saw used at LHR .

Short SC7 Skyvan Series 3 C-GKOA buzzing over west Berkshire and Hampshire now at about 5,000 feet , out of Brize Norton , looks like it's heading back there. Don't see many Skyvans these days
Also a lot of gliders over England today, for a Monday , though not the 'thousands' you see over Germany on a normal , good weekend...
