Interesting aircraft - what have you seen on your computer today?
Why would the E-4B be used as a transport for any US VIP ? As far as I was aware it was the command post used in a doomsday scenario to provide a 'Govt in the air' impervious to EMP's etc. Wouldn't the US Sec of Defence normally travel in a C40 or C32 ??
I always found the ghostly white of the E-4's matched their ominous purpose. They used to come in pairs to sit at Mildenhall during Presidential visits to the UK in the past.

There seem to be a lot of European-registered small turboprops - Saab 340s, Metros, Brasilias, etc, plying to and fro from Brum and elsewhere - I assume they are freighting small packages?
Nice to get a somewhat distant glimpse of a C-5 heading up from Bristol Channel to Clacton a short while ago - doing the usual Belgium avoidance procedure. Ah, I miss Starlifters...

The E-4 has flown from Stuttgart to Brussels this morning - presumably will be here either this afternoon or tomorrow.

I posted on this the other day and the post disappeared after a few minutes. I assumed moderated out?

All working furiously the other day. Tracks are either NW<->SE or NE<->SW and on one observed occasion they did both in one area. Suggests to me some magnetic element to the task? Perhaps. There is often a right/left/right (or is it the other way?) turn or some imprecise orbits before the runs start.

Aerial survey over the sea is usually for environmental reasons and or prospective off shore wind farms. Off shore wind farms may as part of planning process/authorisation want sea bird surveys. Believe it or not they count birds floating on the sea from the imagery as well as other things.
Survey flight lines, depending if for lidar or imagery, will align with various things - wind direction to lower crab angles even with gyro mounts which can handle certain crab angles, terrain heights to minimise GSD fluctuation (and avoid need for 3D flight plans that have a lot of flying height changes) and terrain (or infrastructure) alignment - i.e. roads or coastlines.
