BA269 Nov 6th

Friend of mine is travelling today on BA269 to LAX.
Had a quick look at FR24 to check progress.
I was surprised to see it turning back to LHR after passing The Outer Hebrides in Scotland.
it is now in the hold over LHR.
Can anyone shed any lght ?

From the BA Source

British Airways A380 G-XLEE operating BA269 London Heathrow – Los Angeles was to the north-west of Benbecula this afternoon when it turned back to London Heathrow due to a technical issue.

It was, apparently, due to a problem with #4 engine.

That thought went through my mind too when I heard about it.

After the fallout from the B744 incident I don't think BA will be in any hurry to cross the pond again with one not working.

Technically even the eastbound LAX - LHR didn't make it with three engines. It got as far as MAN I recall...
