If you are a member there is the Costco car park , if anyone asks your wife is inside doing the shopping . Also the roundabout on the main road just northwest of there is always good spot but pretty busy.
Not sure what there is to see these days as new civil types now in service and can be seen daily at LHR , no one is going to be that bothered about looking at the latest 737 iteration or an A321 with new engines so anyone know what might be worth the effort?

While they tollerated that the last couple of shows they were starting to ask to see your membership card once you parked up at the last show
At my first show in '74, John Farley came looking for me having met me in SATCO's office.
'Terry' he said 'got a bit of a problem; I've got to fly Baxter in the display tomorrow for the TV cameras but I'm not sure if he can go the whole display without puking'.
So we duly arranged an 'extra' practice slot for him to take Raymond up in GVTOL and just throw it around to see how much he could take.

well in 1970 I earnt £20 a week so 5% of my before tax wage........................... and I went
in 1990 I was on around £900 a week so - 1.5% and I went
But the show was a damn site better than boring identikit stuff you'll see this year

Historic Farnborough public-day prices per the good old Flight archives:
1950 3s weekend ( no public on Friday )
1960 £1 Friday, 5s weekend
1970 20s Friday, 10s weekend
1980 £5 Friday, £4 weekend
1990 £11
2000 £15 in advance or £20 at the gate.
Additional per-vehicle parking charges applied although in those days I reckon most people arrived by other means.
It would be interesting to align those with contemporaneous average daily pay.
Nowadays a single-day ticket for RIAT is £55, so Farnborough sadly seems to be in line with the cost of 'large UK airshow' these days.

I'm pretty sure the cost of running an airshow of this size is why the cost of the tickets are so high. But yet again, we have the same old moaners saying the same thing every year (or two in the case of Farnborough). Yes yes, in the 70s the sky was black due to so many Hunters and Phantoms screaming around the skies at Mach 6. And entry was only 20p. We get it.
Farnborough International aka SBAC spend an awful amount with the constructon of the buildings/exhibition halls/chalets but only pay for the extra display items on 'public' days; all the companies exhibiting their aircraft pay an awful amount for the privilege of doing so; if they want a chalet too, that's even more to pay.

Bit expensive
Afraid i wont be going this year, seems less on public days then the glory days in the past
Afraid i was put off few years back, got in ok, paid the price, main halls closed due to some private function ,
line up dropped as some stuiff gone home ie Boeing, rained so display was limited not there fault
so the good old Farnbrough aint what used to be

The cynic in me suggests that they get the public in at the end so their entry fees pay for the expenses for the industry part of the week.
If they don't have the Red Arrows, the great British public won't know what they're seeing anyway.......

Little did I know then that from 1974 to 2008, I would be doing that myself!
When SBAC came to us telling us about the change of dates (either '96 or '98 I think) we argued about it but they wanted it to be the same time as RIAT so some display items could do both shows. Whether July or September, you can't guarantee the weather will be OK.

They then man much of the show with "volunteers" on the pretence of offering a fantastic development opportunity, whilst they flounce around site in their new 4x4 liveried cars.

My son (as a valued customer as their invite says) has received an invitation from Barons BMW Dealership for him and a guest to view the Farnborough Airshow from their premises on Farnborough Road adjacent to the airfield. Anyone been there and done that from that location on previous air shows?
I should add the invite also says there is a drinks reception on arrival followed by a hog roast for lunch and afternoon tea later in the afternoon - so a chance to dull the senses before trying to see the display from outside the airfield boundary!

Just north of final approach for runway 24 and off the airfield, so although you'll get a good view of aircraft landing, you won't see too much of the actual display flying.

Chevvron- from the Farnborough Road outside Barons you can see pretty much straight down 24, so you should see pretty much all of the display flying. Or am I missing something?
I think you'll find Barons itself is quite a bit lower than the main road, plus you're seeing the displays 'end on' from there.
Don't forget I used to watch the displays from the old control tower which was also 'end on'.
I still reckon your best bet is Morrisons in Southwood. The see the displays 'side on' albeit from a bit further way, you have hot food and bogs in the supermarket and a lager isn't going to cost you about 4 quid a bottle.

MB have always entertained their users very well at Farnborough. This year we are not invited as it is RAF 100! A little surprised as there aren't that many of us left from the first 50 years.
