First 787S to be scrapped - N787FT and N7874 ?

I have seen some rumours that N787FT and N7874 are to be scrapped. Can anyone shed any light on how true this is?

Both were R & D aircraft.....and now surplus to requirements. Other R & D airframes have been preserved

I think that's very literal description! There certainly was a lot of research, as they were repeatedly torn apart and rebuilt until everything fitted.

They were both complete botches that highlighted Boeing's disorganised development project and cost the company $847 million in a charge. Just for those two.

Makes you wonder with all the composite material. Perhaps in the future we'll have composite cans of coca-cola ? ;-)
