Did anyone hear the one, possibly two extremely loud propellor jobs that flew over London today around 11.30am +/- 30mins. They were within 5 mins of each other. I was in slumber catching up on the effects of insomnia and it woke me up, but not enough to check! Super loud/deep/resonating. I don't think that it had the tone of an A400, more AN-?? yet stronger.

No... but heard an AN12 yesterday evening tracking north from the Wash over Scarborough at F260. It seemingly descended into EGPK.

That might have been one, I've narrowed the other down to a Piaggio P-180 at 11,000ft. Terrible affliction, the 'Whatwasititus' ;-)

The P-180 makes quite a high pitched buzzing noise, I believe the result of the slipstream/exhaust going through the prop. A type i can usually identify by sound! The Cessna 337 always sounded a bit different as well.

Treaders - you must be used to the P180 that flits between Gloucester and Biggin regularly - such a distinctive noise.

An 12's seem to be getting more regular or are my ears more sensitive? One yesterday Keflavik to Liege. Looking at the FR24 records it'd gone across the pond via the Azores to the Caribbean then up the eastern seaboard and back via Iceland.

Woken from my slumbers this morning at 0730Z by another droning its way from Birmingham to Burgas; which I see on FR24 is due to depart for Doha shortly.

Yeah, I have seen one at low level a few times recently - usually the ones I see are coming off the Biggin hold and going into Northolt.
