Great news indeed. Ten years since I last saw it. The noise is unforgetable.

Heard it descending into Man when it was overhead Newcastle. Very distinct sound but at the time was unable to get a visual confirmation due to cloud cover and line of sight.

Shame, might get it on the way back.

I was out walking in the woods near Northwich. Beautiful morning, heard it then saw it. Very nice. From nine miles away I heard it land (selection of ground idle/reverse/beta or Russian equivalent).

Made my morning.

Here's a few. As soon as I heard it was due in I got a flight booked, well worth the trip from Southampton and my first visit to Manchester airport.
Also saw a Lufthansa 747 landing which was a emergency divert, I think due to medical grounds.

I went to the south side, opposite the terminals, to get some photos and see it for the first time. It was very impressive with a unique sound, unlike any other aircraft I have ever heard.

It was taking an A330 engine out to Cuba for TC after G-OMYT went tec. It is due back in MAN again on Wednesday, presumably with the damaged engine and associated equipment required for the change.

Reports suggest that it was a pretty scary failure.

Well some do.

But several of the comments on the article, from passengers on the flight, suggest that it wasn't nearly as dramatic as was reported.

This is the engine that supposedly "exploded", after the event:

Six incidents in five years (the April 2017 event involved a different aircraft) doesn't seem excessive.

Dave Reid

More like a trend but was it always the same engine or not. Ideally, someone should be asking questions and getting answers. But will that happen in this day and age when profits are normally the primary concern.

She's just returned approx 1820.
Due to depart 1100 (local) tomorrow.
Sounds just like the TU-114s used to do routing Moscow-Montreal direct when they ran across blue one to Wallasey then red three to Belfast, they often ran north of dogger to pass closer to fylingdale.
Jason,Some awesome photos thanks.
Be lucky
David

Should be 'interesting' in the winds for the pilots today. Also the weather should make for some moody shots for anyone who braves the mound at Manchester this morning. Ears to the ready!
