What on earth happened here? Botched up circling?

Good! Went around. (if a little low)
I went around from my first ever base training approach in a B747. The TC was ecstatic.
It's what a professional does and what their passengers expect them to do.

If you see the runway from that angle it is always better to go around. but Strange ? No . Good decision, well executed. Nothing to complain about. Smartphones on Twitter again...

Is this some kind of circling approach gone horribly wrong?

Crazy that they tried to put it down after being miles off the centreline, before finally going around.

He had that... just a few more feet and he'd have nailed it.

Was this a non precision approach, become visual to the right of the centerline, did not make a great job of lining up with the runway, eventually decided to throw it away and try again?

Would not have met with the criteria for being on the center line in my company, (established on final approach, wings level no lower than 300ft) if you went chasing it like that crew appeared to it would be a trip for a chat without tea and biscuits!
