Ex MyTravel DC10-10s

Hello all

I was hoping somebody could shed some light on what is happening/has happened to the 3x DC10-10s that used to be operated by MyTravel, which were promptly moved to South Africa and seem to be sat at Johannesburg Airport doing very little - though I'm rather hoping that they're earning their living.

It was a mystery why those three oldies got a new lease of life but G-BYDA got the chop, surely the latter was the more capable aircraft?

I have a genuine interest in the DC10s that MyTravel operated so even if you can't answer your questions I'd love to hear any reminiscing from the flight/cabin/engineering crews about their fleet.

Best regards

These three aircraft were registered to Interlink Airlines as 3D-MRQ, 3D-MRR and 3D-MRS. They conducted some Hajj flights before the company went out of business in 2010.

All three DC-10s subsequently went on to the South African register as ZS-GAP, ZS-GAS and ZS-GAW.

At least one has since been scrapped.

ZS-GAP is listed on Global Aviation's website as one of their fleet. The pictures seem to show that it's still airworthy but it doesn't mention how recent the pictures are..
I hope it's still flying, I remember going on the DC10s on holiday back in the days of Airtours/Mytravel

Hi all

Bumping a very old post... I have had a look on the latest Google Maps satellite images and it appears there is not a hint of DC10 left at JNB. Have these all been scrapped now, or are any left rotting away in a backwater airport?

I'd love to hear any stories from crew about these magnificent aircraft. A big regret of mine was never having the opportunity to fly in one. I did spend some time in a KC10 cockpit at RIAT this year (regrettably not in the sky, however!). It re-enforced my view that if I was ever a pilot - impossible due to colour vision issues, the dream career would have involved stints on the AIH/MYT DC10s. Also on the list would be Monarch A300s and I guess the 767-300 TUI have are turning into modern classics too now

I was born in the wrong era.

Thanks in advance

All I have, which is according to Aviation Database is the following info:

G-DPSP: Although officially registered ZS-GAP was B/U still with reg S9-GAP some time between 2012-2016.

G-TAOS: Although officially registered ZS-GAS it was reported as stored in Durban still showing reg S9-GAS in 2009.

G-TDTW: Reported B/U (as ZS-GAW) some time after 2013. The fuselage was used for a Land Rover advert.

Other reports suggest it's derelict at Mitiga (Tripoli), having been damaged in an aborted takeoff there in December 2008 and never repaired.

Google Earth shows one that looks like it there.

Thanks HT & Dave, I have found TAOS on Google Earth, seems to be an AVHerald article about her here: https://avherald.com/h?article=41325223&opt=0 I bet she never had any maintenance after leaving the MYT fleet, brave pilots! She still appears to be flaps-down in the aerial imagary but cannot find anything other than a series of interviews "post incident" on Youtube.

I'll try and track the Land Rover advert down!

I've managed to dig out some photos taken approx 3 years ago at JNB on the off chance anyone else is interested.

Also visible in 2015 on Google Street View

It appears this one must have been G-DPSP, as such it must have been broken up late 2015/2016.

This is TDTW being broken up in 2012...
