Charter Flight BHX ~ Funchal, rough cost?

first off, apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I'm a Birmingham city fan, and I've seen a website offering flights to Funchal (for the Europa League game on thursday) for £109 return (incl taxes)! most flights we had seen previously were around £300 each way.

this seems to be a bit of a con, (the website is atrocious, amateur and they only take paypal payments!) and me and the guys on the blues forum were debating the likelihood of being able to charter a flight between BHX and Funchal at this price.

On another aviation forum I've read that a 737 can be chartered for around £3000 per wet hour, which might make it possible to sell tickets at £109 pp? they also stated that a late night/early morning charter flight from an airline that operates already at those airports (to lower ground handling costs) would be cheaper to charter and make this operation viable?

I was hoping some of the fine PPRUNE minds might be able to give me a more accurate idea of if this is a scam or not. People are already buying tickets from this website, we are hoping if it is a scam to get it closed down before too many people lose money.

cheers in advance.

Matt
Dont do it mate, FNC is 3-4 hrs flight so @ £109 no chance, get onto trading standards. U could try ringing a broker for an idea on the rough cost, Air Partner are 24/7 so they might be able to help you if you explain. They do a lot of footy charters
Your also having to pay for deadlegs to get to BHX to go BHX-FNC and then BHX back after the flight. £109 would get you somewhere like Beavais France

A scam for sure. Don't touch it.

thanks for the heads up. I think it's already been passed on to trading standards.

If it looks too good to be true... lol!

thanks!

You can fly to Funchal for £75 on EasyJet so I don't see how the price is to good to be true.

RingwaySam, I think that what you forget is that not all seats will sell at that price, maybe only the first 10 or so. The price will then increase incrementally and the majority will sell at much higher fares. They call it yield management or something like that. What is being said here is that a charter wouldn't be viable if all seats were sold at the price indicated.

As an example if I now wish to book EASYJET LPL-FAO-LPL, out 18/AUG with a return the next day, the cheapest I'll pay is over 170 quid.
