Virgin 8 Diversion into Manchester?

Virgin 8 LAX-LHR landed in Manchester around 1300 today.

Don't put yourself down!!! I didn't think your post was irrelevant!!

Was there any need to post such a banal reply? In your giddy, high powered world of professional aviation, a diversion is an everyday event.....but on the "spotters forum" it may be slightly news worthy.

I appreciate that. But can you imagine how full up and tiresome to trawl through the spotters' forum would become if every diversion was given it's own separate thread? Especially when there is nothing more given by the original poster. Are they asking for a reason for the diversion? Or stating there's a rare chance to see an A340-600 at EGCC?

Things that would be of note/interest to the majority of spotters would be lost amongst countless posting say Aircraft ABC123 diverted to Airport WXYZ.

I do tend to agree with Jackie. It's like the "I'm flying to Alicante on EasyJet from Stansted, what type of aircraft will it be" threads.

It can get a little monotonous. Find out a bit more as to why it diverted and then post it, it might be more interesting than it is so far.

Are they asking for a reason for the diversion? Or stating there's a rare chance to see an A340-600 at EGCC?
I would suspect it is a bit of both, Virgin A340's are not that thick on the ground up here, plus a bit of healthy curiosity.
Not really deserving of such an aggressive response really.
Find out a bit more as to why it diverted and then post it, it might be more interesting than it is so far.
I suspect that was the hope/intention of the original poster.

Well if you look under flight status on the Virgin Atlantic site,you could find out a probable reason for the divert. If you are interested of course.

I have taken on board the various comments, constructive and otherwise.

The 'quality' of most of the responses posted would indicate that Jet Blast was obviously temporarily down for maintenance.....

I do wonder if some folks are getting enough fibre in their diet.

Did do a search prior to posting Jubilee.

Flight Status for VS8.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances this flight has been diverted to Manchester, UK. The plane will re-fuel and return to London Heathrow as soon as possible."

Just thought someone could elucidate me on what the 'unforeseen' bit was.

Then why not ask this in your original post and let people know what information you were looking for?
The fact that 80 people had viewed your thread and said nothing before my initial comment would suggest a good number of folks saw what you wrote as a "nothing post". As stated below, the repeated "an aircraft diverted" posts become very monotonous if nothing more is given to elucidate why the OP has posted for a given flight.

said a/c stopped for fuel as it was getting a bit short, as enroute from LAX there was a medical emergency for which they turned back to LAX but enroute back the medical emergency was resolved and they turn around again heading for LHR, then enroute it was clear there was not enough fuel to get to LHR, the crew elected to go to GLA but as there is no support there MAN was the preferred option. Put on some fuel and then left an hour later for LHR.

Cieloitaliano deserves more respect than some of you guys seem willing to give. It seems to me that it was a simple observation that needed an equally simple and polite response. Rather than help the guy, you expend a lot of effort to put him down - If you have an answer, convey it - otherwise keep quiet . . . look in the mirror to see the idiot.

I do enjoy trawling through this site, but seriously wonder about the minority of opinionated, self-appointed "experts" (or "Geeks" to the rest of us) who berate those who seek to promote conversation. Apologies, but I thought this was an open forum for all interested parties - some of your posts only serve to stop people taking part. Well done!

VS8 lands at EGCC

Unforeseen circumstances?
LAX-LHR Unforeseen circumstances could mean less than favorable tailwinds, or possibly the ship being a bit thirsty or a longer track distance than planned which would appear to be the case here. Burning more fuel than planned would mean they would not arrive legally at LHR with fuel for LGW as alternate so the commander may have elected to rectify the situation.
Solution, drop into Manchester for a "splash and go"
Just a thought.

In retrospect I did think that by posting a simple observation that a flight due into Heathrow, from LAX, had diverted to Manch. would have been a 'conversation' starter, ie; WHY?
Reminds me of the anecdote:

cieloitaliano, perhaps your opening post could have been a little more than a statement - perhaps a request for information?

Having said that, this IS a forum for 'spotters and enthusiasts', and it was entirely appropriate to post the query here.

- I think most of us see an easy solution to your dilemma - or are you yourself a 'spotter' in which case, of courses, you may wish to 'trawl through the spotters' forum' and will have to put up with it?

At the end of all this, we have 'spanners' to thank for adding some interesting background to the diversion.
