Miroku,
I bet you never thought your question would set off such a storm.
After all that has been said about other products, I can certainly recommend Planeplotter. I have it running at home with my SBS box for at least 6 - 7 hours a day and a lot more when I am not at work. I am sure the networking sometimes does not work but I cannot remember when I last had a problem with it. The forums always seem friendly (both SBS and Planeplotter) and all my questions have been very quickly answered.
I am very happy with it.

Andy,
You're dead right there! Although I did cause some mayhem once on the forum when I asked for recommendations for books/CDs for instrument flying and forgot to mention that I would also be using an instructor!
Many thanks for the info anyway.

During the winter months I listen to my Yupi mvt 7100, mainly mil where possible, but now less and less mil.
I read this thread a few days ago and it whetted my appetite to watch a bit of flight tracking.
I tried to download the free 21 day trial of planeplotter without success, instead I have been watching Casper with the 15 minutes delay.
Is it worth me paying the £5 mth/3 months minimum with Casper? It seems OK to me or is the extra money spent on Planeplotter better?
TIA

Navy Adversery,
forgive me if I am wrong but does Casper show all traffic? Watching other sites gives only an impression of what is above. As I mentioned in my earlier posts I consider Planeplotter by far the superior program (but I am sure others will disagree) and you do not miss the regionals, bizjets and military transports. I have just 'watched' an AN12 landing at EMA which most sites would not have shown. Now all I have to do is persuade my wife that a quick trip down the motorway would be a good Christmas Day trip!
Happy Christmas & New Year to you all.

However, your point is very valid and many of the interesting aircraft will only show up using Planeplotter.
Hope your wife lets you have that Christmas trip

Capetonian,
Some of the LOT aircraft transmit their location (B767's) and therefore appear on these sites. I see these regularly on Trans-Atlantic flights.
Where I live we do not get LOT 737's over so I cannot say for certain. However, their 737's are older and will probably(?) not transmit their location.

My wife is working Christmas night and so will certainly need a sleep on Boxing Day morning. Now all I have to do is persuade my 11 year old daughter that EMA is a good trip out for her dad and brother and keep my fingers crossed that the AN12 has not left by then!

PlanePlotter

If you do not own an SBS, Radarbox etc you will have to register your copy of Planeplotter to see the network traffic. To do this will cost you about 25 euro. For this you get PP and updates for as long as you own PP, if you also want to use Mlat to see non-plotting traffic that is another 12 euro.
I joined the group a few years ago (without an SBS) and have never looked back, I now supply data to the network along with hundreds of others.
If you want more info you can PM me or have a look at the Yahoo group, they don't bite, honest.

Try this....
If you are using an iphone the "Plane Finder" application is very good at identifing the heavy metal passing overhead. You will be expected to pay a one-off fee, about a fiver if my memory is working. I also have Plane Plotter running on my laptop and found the 25 euro fee value for money. BUT......please understand as good as the programs are they DO NOT display the commuter, light or most biz-jets.
As yet I haven't bought a dedicated modem, for me the jury is still out on what benefit this would give me over the programs listed above.
Good luck, and do your research, IF I were to splash the cash the SBS-1er would be a strong contender.
ERROR ?????
I run the Plane Plotter just as its downloaded, you MAY be able to list or show other aircraft by using additional files.
