China's First Airliner Takes Off!
BBC Radio 4 News just announced that China has flown the first airliner to be wholly built 'in country'.
The plane is intended for the domestic market. (Sorry, I can't remember the name of the aircraft).

ARJ-21 is a development of DC-9/MD-80:

China "wholly built" Shanghai Y-10 as well, thirty years ago:

that would make it first Chinese airliner.
Harbin Y-12 also started more than 30 years ago as Y-11, and out of all Chinese-made civillian aircraft is the only one that looks like an indigenous design:

Doesn't make them better or worse, just pays to do homework before hollering.

Jeez!
Spare me from the Geeks & Nerds!
I posted the news, as reported and a pair of the above bombard the thread with their wiki-wisdom, talk of homework and proof!
I have not the slightest interest in airliners, I posted as I know that there are those who do.
Lighten Up!
(The terms Geeks & Nerds is meant in a friendly, not offensive way).
