Apologies m.garner but the media have been trying a number of underhanded tricks to get info, and as such joining sites such as this and airmech to gain info on such a sad occassion, which turns a sad event into a mockery, the 1700 people that lost their jobs yesterday through no fault of their own just would like the dust to settle so they can move on, these people have lost their jobs in a time of great financial stress and as a result some may become homeless, marriages may breakdown, constant reminders only make people uneasy this is from my own personnal experience in the past, the media do have a job to do which is to report what is going on, but there are means and professional ways of going about their business through the right authoritive channels.

But too quench your curosity i am sure some pics will be posted on the net soon, but believe me your not missing much all you will see is either 73 or 76 with a vehicle parked at the rear end, nothing too exciting

As said above Matt... OK COPYRIGHT ON THESE IMAGES REMAINS MINE.... That means especially you The Sun.....

These are for you Matt, and not to be transmitted or sold by anyone to anyone without my permission......... ( had it before with pics I posted on here appearing in the SUN.)

Possibly one of its last flights as taken the day before the termination of services.....

And parked up at East Midlands on the wash bay, a sad sight......

Sad to see and my thoughts are with all the guys and gals from XL....... you offered a crackingly good service......... so hold your heads high and remember that........

So what does happen to the aircraft that are stranded in say Dinard, Sanford etc.?

Do they just sit there until they are bought by someone else? Pure curiosity.

A lot will be owned via leasing or financing companies so when things are settled such as parking etc they will be returned to these companies and moved on to other companies or stored......

All four XL a/c at LGW were parked at remote stands (where Air Namibia usually parks), two had baggage carts parked behind them, the other two were clear. This was on Friday. I didn't get to check regs.

why would the aircraft go to lasham?

A lot of parking space cheaper than most airports, where the aircraft can be put into storage or under care and maintenance.

When the aircraft is placed with another airline, ATC Lasham, a maintenance company based there and at Southend, working with the leasing companies, will re-brand the aircraft into the next operator.

blocked

Might seem over the top to some but blocking them in stops them
being moved to another part of field where possibly someone
else makes a claim on them for moneys owed

TM, why don't you add copyright info to the EXIF and/or (better) IPTC fields? With the latter, it should show up in whatever software the newspaper uses for handling its images.

Sunwings crew arrived yesterday to try and take the aircraft but were told by the airport it would not be released. As far as aware left the airport to try another day.
