The issues were that the only route to the runway (due to wingspan) requires 9 stands to be closed and a massive exercise with closing roads etc. After pushback it takes at least 15 minutes to stow the towbar so the taxiway is blocked. It then will take a minimum of 15 minutes to taxi for departure. Once lined up, the takeoff procedure involves running all engines at high power for at least 5-6 minutes prior to brake release. We have been given approval for an 0900z.
Cheers for that. Hadn't considered the shutting of stands and taxiways. Still don't quite understand why she couldn't leave after dark when it is quieter around the airport - unless the 24R closures hampered things.
Does that mean that MAN is less likely to host her in the future?
I am slightly surprised that MAN was chosen as the departure airport - were EMA/DSA/STN/PIK not cheaper or easier alternatives?

Least Manchester has 2 runways and it can work on one for a while whilst the AN225 did its power checks and it was quietest time of the day as well
I went round to 24L threshold with the wife (we must be mad in that rain ) but was well worth watching and the size when you get close up is amazing.
The whole tail section was flexing as the aircraft did its run-up

Was the shakes due the wind or the chill factor because you were soaked?
very good though
I remember being at the airport when the 1st B747 (BOAC) came in
but I think there were a tad few more people there for that as it was in days when the piers were open and it took about 10 minutes to walk the full length
and I was only a kid then I might say

Yes was quite wet with the wind from the south. Micheal La Vell [aka Kevin wesbster from the street was there too with his dogs]
I remember the 1st 747, my dad took me. I remember going in terminal 1 at the original entrance with the arched canopies up the stairs, passing the old chandaliers & down to the window as it was early evening.
That I think kicked off my interest. The old viewing days were great, the sights, smell & the noise. Would always cycle down as much as possible after school especially on divert days to see piers A & B full of widebodies. I've seen a few 1st's. Like concorde, space shuttle etc etc, tried to make a career in flying but failed. lack of funds & women!!!!!

If MAN didn't c K up then its fingers crossed for more ADB highlights in the future. I just wish they would paint her in full colours. Like what a flag ship should be. http://www.aviasvit.com.ua/photo/aviasv445.jpg

We flew back into NEMA Yesterday at 02.30 local.
What an experience. I am NoseyParkers partner ( thanks Dear, sorry I couldn't arrange the proposal!!) .
The reason tha we didn't come back to MAN was that they became insreasingly unhelpfull as our departure got more and more delayed. Appears that they wanted the publicity of it landing there, but quickly got bored with it!!
Yes, we did get the stage built in time ( I had a 42 hour day following our departure. The start of the gig was delayed by the Diva like attitude of one of the stars. The whole of Nigeria is based on back handers, and our departure at both ends was all due to monies being promised but not being deliverd.
It's one hell of an experience, and I've got loads of photo's. I will be looking at the YouTube video shortly, as I oddly, couldn't see the take off!
Big Thanks To Bob the Flight Manager, (Phil) CharterMan, and all of the crew. Also to MAnchester Handling, particularly Julian.
Didn't realise tah it was such a coup for them.
Cheers
