> John Swinfield reports from the abandoned rocket base at Spadeadam, near Carlisle. Spadeadam was previously the testing site of the Blue Streak rocket - originally planned as a replacement for Britain's V bomber nuclear deterrent, and subsequently repurposed as the first stage of the European Launcher Development Organisation's space research vehicle, Europa-1.

Then there were Black Knight and Black Arrow. But enough nostalgia.
