Firefly Blue Ghost
Buckle up! Our road trip to the Moon is set to launch at 1:11 a.m. EST on Wednesday, Jan. 15, on a @SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
From liftoff to landing, here's the rundown of Blue Ghost's 60-day lunar mission, including 45 days traveling to the Moon and 14 days of surface operations. With 17 success milestones along the way, our #GhostRiders will collect critical data for our @NASA payloads and future missions as we pave the way for a lasting lunar presence. https://fireflyspace.com/missions/bl... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....18d5c8181d.png |

Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 Successfully Launches and Begins 45-Day Transit to the Moon On-orbit commissioning is now complete! Up next, Blue Ghost will spend approximately 25 days orbiting Earth 3.5 times at varying altitudes that get us closer to the Moon each time. Check back for daily updates along the way! |
VideoOur #GhostRiders completed another lunar orbit maneuver with a 3 minute, 18 second burn early this morning. This maneuver moved the lander from a high elliptical orbit to a much lower elliptical orbit around the Moon. Shortly after the burn, Blue Ghost captured incredible footage of the Moon's far side, about 120 km above the surface.
In this orbit, the team will experience planned rolling comms blackouts as Blue Ghost goes around the far side of the Moon. When on the near side, the team will continue to downlink data and finalize the plan for our next maneuver that will get Blue Ghost even closer to the lunar surface and keep us right on track for landing on March 2. |

Surprised it hasn't been much in the news before - but reasonable coverage today

Excellent result, I marvel at this now, the fact the Soviets and the USA could do this nearly 60 years ago is staggering.
